  1. This, and I see they have corrected the spelling error on the cover - This Japanese reissue said "SYMPHNY NO.2" where the blank spot is. Fine disc and good to hear some of the "extras" from the original lp box.
  2. After a pretty dry spell, saxophonist/programmer Steve Baczkowski has announced the following events at Hallwalls: March 26 - Joseph Daley's Tuba Trio w/Scott Robinson & Warren Smith March 31 - Peter Brotzmann - Solo April 22 - Nicole Mitchell's Black Earth Ensemble April 23 - Ab Baars - Solo May 14 - Wayne Horovitz / Sara Schoenbeck Duo May 21 - Hear In Now (Mazz Swift, Silvia Bolognesi and Tomeka Reid)
  3. This is becoming a favorite -
  4. Jam Sessions 7 & 8 are favorites in this house - Hampton is a big plus here. I found originals of both jams in the early '70s.
  5. Cage would 0nly be a fraction.
  6. I have a Dial lp (dial 6) containing 4 Hovhaness compositions. Lousadzak-concerto for piano and orchestra w/Maro Ajemian, conducted by the composer Tzikerk for flute (Phillip Kaplan), Violin (Anahid Ajemian), tympani (Saul Goodman) and strings conducted by the composer Achtamar for solo piano (Maro Ajemian) Shatakh for piano and violin (the usual suspects)
  7. You know George Avakian was married to Maro's sister Anahid, a violinist?
  8. Yes, the symphony issued it first - I think it had a blue cover. Our version was less compressed than theirs. We filtered out some low frequencies when the noise appeared.
  9. copied from the vinyl topic: Now listening to my favorite Mahler 5. It is a shame this hasn't made the transition to digital. I got to know the sessions intimately while preparing the lp masters for the HNH issue. The tapes 'felt' compressed to me and we complained to the Stockholm Philharmonic ( the source of the tapes ) and they said they did that because the hall was built over some rail tracks and 'rumble' intruded at some points. We requested unadulterated tapes and proceeded to make a more honest representation of the music.

  11. First had the Wagner on a 2 lp issue from Unicorn and now on a Chandos cd with an earlier cover. Fine recording.

  13. Yes, this is a Musical Heritage issue of 3 Masselos lps from RCA. Now I am in an Ives mood, so I moved on.
  14. Can't make it this year - we have to be in San Francisco for Roscoe Mitchell's Jazz Master induction/celebration. We just can't make both. I do expect to see BFrank in SF! He seems to be unavoidable. ;-)
  15. IIRC, this one too -
  16. You just can't see them.
  17. Hot water soup. Little better.
  18. Adventures online abound. Thanks. Or maybe thank's. On the other hand - unBird Herd
