He invited me to his office to play some records and I chose Sonny's "Blue Seven". This opened all kinds of things to discuss. I will never forget it.

Number 3 at the moment. I was introduced to these recordings in a "music appreciation class" at the University of Iowa by Eldon Obrecht and they remain as favorites. Obrecht brought Gunther Schuller to our class and later regaled me with stories of Art Tatum on 52nd St. I owe him a lot.

Her obit is what alerted me. I was living in Chicago at the time, might be a crowd member is the film and more. Richard Abrams and John Jackson (AACM founding members) are bit players in the film. This is proving to be a trip down memory lane. The "Chicago Riots" caused a reconciliation with my father at the time. More details in my bio flic.

Alvin Fielder and Joseph Jarman subtracted from my life in a short time is hard to digest. Both figured in my "professional" life from the beginning. Friendships continued for 50+ years and I feel blessed. Thank you to both.
