Sorry for muddying the waters. Seeing your mention of Hat made me think of Comin' On, also on Hat Art. That was the "kettle" I was speaking about.

Some fresh blood should be welcomed. -
I thought someone here might appreciate me dragging an mp3 offer from Amazon over here: Currently on Amazon US is a large Sibelius box by Osmo Vanska and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra - all seven symphonies (including the first version of the 5th), the final version of the violin concerto, Finlandia, Overture in E Major, Valse Triste, En Saga, Karelia Suite, Snowy Peace, Tapiola and the complete Lemminkainen Suite. The price is $7.99.

The cassette vs. the Rest of the World debate
Chuck Nessa replied to David Ayers's topic in Audio Talk
Right. But there have been at least some attempts...One of them was from In Sync. This company was (is still ?) owned by a Mr Silver (not the one from the cd's) who was also the leader of an american vinyl company named Connoisseur. In the 60's-70's, they released excellent material extremely well recorded but often plagued by the vinyl illness : cracks, popples, hiss, noises... Some of the Connoisseur Master tapes were released in cassette tape format trying to preserve their quality and remove the noise problems. I owned only a couple of these featuring the great Ivan Moravec and I must say the sonic results were more than acceptable, with some of the master tape qualities retained and the crackle and pops replaced by a continuous but faint tape hiss (Dolby-ized, of course). In Sync cassettes have now disappeared but they at least tried to improve upon the very average sound quality of this format. Though they could hardly have been called audiophile by today's digital standards. E. Alan Silver should have simply changed pressing plants to get rid of the clicks and pops. Connoisseur Society records were usually recorded with care but it was awfully difficult to find an acceptable pressing. -

When the heck was that era. I never encountered it. -
Last art exhibition you visited?

While we were in Houston for the Roscoe Mitchell events, we took a day to explore the Picasso In Black and White exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts. I covered his entire career and was wonderful. -
The Lenny recording was everywhere in the US during my school years and I am sure it introduced a mass of my countrymen (and women) to the work. I have narrowed my collection to Stravinsky, Fricsay and Horenstein - all for different reasons. I wish I still had the Boulez recording issued on Nonesuch in the US 'cause I remember liking it a bunch and don't have a clue what interested me.

At first I thought this was a thread about an old girlfriend. What is the pattern on the screw heads? That will provide the answer.

Are there any box bargains currently available?
Chuck Nessa replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Make up your mind. I'm a prime member too but this is about marketplace vendor shipping prices which effect all Amazon castes. Not sure it's a "bargain" and it fits with the DVD box thread, but the Rome blu-ray is $43ish at Amazon and I bit, inspired by watching "I, Claudius" for the 5th time around. I don't want to leave togaland and it was that or watch Animal House for the 20th time. the regular Amazon shipping prices mirror the "marketplace". That was my point -
That was a fun band. The only opportunity I had to catch Sammy Benskin in person.

Just replaced 2 turntables, one from 1970 and another from 1975. -
At any rate, the Feb concert is not going to be included in the new set.

From facebook: Ricky Riccardi It's finally official! Mosaic Records just got the green light tonight to go ahead with the production of a 9-CD Louis Armstrong boxed set of live Columbia and RCA recordings, 1947-1958!!! Not only will it be a dream come true for All Stars fans but it's also a big deal for me personally as I first wrote to Mosaic with the idea in 2006 and will now be writing the gigantic liner notes and co-producing the set with the great Scott Wenzel. I'll have more details when I come back down to earth, probably in the form of a blog later this week. Dreams come true indeed....
