  1. Maybe we could hurry things along by contacting Jonathan directly at http://internationalphonographinc.com/.
  2. Thanks. Much appreciated. I hope I remember to come back tomorrow and read this again.
  3. Conversations first issued on Alan Douglas' FM label. The original issue of Iron Man on Douglas was gold. This is how I first got them. I now have a boxed version of the 2 Fuel 2000 cds titled This Is.
  4. There are only 8 sides but are more than worthy of careful reissue.
  5. Brown Betty Betty Carter Carter Spills
  6. Lovely recital - just about an hour long. All the pieces were related to Abbey Lincoln. Small theater (140 seats) and a lovely piano. After the program Ran returned to the piano bench for informal discussion with the stragglers, including about a half dozen high school classmates of Abbey. We spoke briefly. Ran was using a walker to move about. He asked me to pass on his greeting to you, Terry, Art and Larry.
  7. Around 1968 all the major labels stopped the dual inventories of mono/stereo. Rather than scrap all the mono jackets they printed stickers.
  8. I'm amazed anyone here needs these recordings.
  9. The Robinson sounds like relatively intelligent noodling to me. The Fischer is more complex but I do not think it is "genius", just very interesting. That is enough for me to make the new cd a "must buy"!!
  10. More like getting Hershey's chocolate on your fries.
  11. All included in Ruppli's Chess discography. Both volumes just under $150 on Amazon.
  12. Tomorrow Lazaro and I are planning on hearing Ran Blake's recital in Kalamazoo.
  13. If you mean the quartet with Cherry, I'd love to know your "keepers".
  14. hope to see you soon.
  15. The sound of Jackie McLean's alto is one of the "signature sounds" making jazz important for me.
  16. Looks like we typed at the same time.
  17. Been researching this for Ran. Thanks to Mark Stryker for pointing out an interview with Lara Pellegrinelli. Abbey clearly mentions Calvin Center. She also mentions rural life. This turns out to be an unincorporated community in SW Michigan - closer to South Bend than Kalamazoo. She also mentions Kzoo. Maybe more later.
  18. That's the way Columbias used to come.
  19. Wrong thread for this discussion but after 1949 all beboppers were (at least) slightly damaged.
  20. This reminds me of a late '70s afternoon with Ran at our apartment. He was in town for a solo concert at Northwestern. Guests included John Litweiler, Larry Kart, Terry Martin and Art Lange. At some point I played James P Johnson's BN recording of Caprice Rag (on a Herwin piano anthology) and Ran "went nuts" and almost derailed the afternoon. Received a message from Ran today and he mentioned the afternoon. Fascinating fellow.
  21. PORTOLUZ has announced the new season in Lakeside, MI. All shows start at 4:00.
