FWIW, this took place at Aaron Russo's Electric Theater (if that was the name at the time - it kept changing). IIRC the Mothers were alternating sets with Canned Heat.

I had been contacted by Elizabeth van der Mei. Elizabeth was an early person promoting the "new thing" in NY. She wrote reports for some magazines and worked at ESP for a while. At some point she moved to California to work with Tom Wilson (Transition Records, electric Dylan, etc) who was now producing/managing Zappa and the Mothers. She thought the meeting of the AACM and Zappa might produce some positive results. I wasn't sure but she pushed me forward.

Stupidest Comedy Movie Ever...

Why would you spend money for an Adam Sandler film? If you want some cheap thrill crap, wait for it. You can see it for nothing eventually and not give him money. -
Hmmm.... In late 1967 or early 1968 when the Mothers were first breaking on the scene, someone in the Zappa management team, working for Tom Wilson suggested I take Lester Bowie and Roscoe Mitchell to meet Frank when they came to town for a gig. It took a bit of convincing to get them to drive to the North side for this meeting. Frank came out from the dressing room and dismissed me as a white guy exploiting black artists and dismissed Lester and Roscoe because they were my n...ers. I have never been able to take him seriously or listen to his music. He was an ASSHOLE of the first order.

Still "temporarily backordered"! Order date was April 13! maybe the white rabbit hopped off. -
If you want the music, I suggest the Reiner, coupled with a wonderful version of the Concerto for Orchestra: Other covers available.

Moving vinyl cross-country in summer heat
Chuck Nessa replied to clifford_thornton's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Concerning the journey for the lps; it will be really stressful for the vinyl so I suggest sending them part way, to Whitehall Michigan. I can give them a rest and eventually send them on their way. -
Kocsis. I purchased the discs individually as they were released and like then a bunch.

Final Appeal Through Indie Gogo Recording Project

Not sure about that. It just replaces the lens with a prosthetic. Just went through that for both eyes. I have my final post op exam on Tuesday. I will ask my doctor about it. -
My iPad has a Kindle app. Never used it. Anyone with experience?

The one pictured is a Columbia Special Products edition manufactured in the mid '80s. I used to sell 'em. Note the altered catalog number and the CSP logo at the bottom.

I still have a real one - CL 951 and remember watching the original broadcast at my grandparents house.

I'd forgotten Sandusky had been retired by the time of McQueary's witnessing of the shower rape. It doesn't change the fact that it occurred in the athletic facilities that Paterno was ultimately head of, though. And Paterno had a responsibility to do more than just mention it to his boss, especially knowing that Sandusky essentially had free reign of those facilities. The reason for Sandusky's retirement must have been a topic of discussion at the university. -
Bartok wrote the third concerto for his wife to play (and earn some income) after he was gone. My favorite versions of the set are in the following order: 1st - Zoltan Kocsis / Ivan Fischer on Philips 2nd - three way tie; Anda / Fricsay on DGG, Jando / Ligeti on Naxos, Sandor / Gielen & Reinhardt on Vox. I like these pieces a lot and enjoy comparing versions. As you can tell from my choices, I prefer performances by Hungarians.

Poor choices for record store names
Chuck Nessa replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Vinyl Solution was the name of a wonderful store in Grand Rapids, MI a few years ago. The remnants of that experience live on at Vertigo. -
