  1. What's To Ya from The House of Blue Lights by Eddie Costa with Wendell Marshall and Paul Motian. 1959 and all over the place - from Tristano to Taylor to Evans to Garland, but always EC. Wish he had made 20 more piano trio records.
  2. How many in the group?
  3. Was hoping to see Von Freeman and Ed Peterson do one of their tenor battles at the Green Mill in Dec. Weather was threatening, so I called the club. Oh sure, of course, they'll be on tonight. (Acted like I was stupid for asking. It's Chicago, dumb-ass, what's a bit of bad weather.) We had a huge-ass blizzard. Obviously, the show was canceled. I think I actually did drag myself to the club only to find no one was there (didn't have a cell phone at the time), but maybe that is a false memory and I am just making it overly dramatic. What year?
  4. Could have been worse - could have been twelve trombones.
  5. I just know them as the best food stores I have ever seen. Sadly only get to visit them in Buffalo.
  6. Wish Wegman's would start moving westward. I really like them when I encounter 'em. Count me in as a self checker.
  7. i hope the catalog is finally in the hands of someone who will responsibly do something of value with it! Not sure the economics of the "industry" work in their favor at the present time.
  8. You weren't the audience but it still didn't happen.
  9. It looks interesting because you don't have it. Much money will be saved when you understand this.
  10. yup
  11. No, this was a drummer Smith was using on the West Coast. We started with Blakey, Jimmy wanted Grady Tate and wound up bringing his "local guy" for the gig of his life.
  12. More Threadgill is only good for us. Have not seen him in years (have talked on the phone) but always miss his gigs somehow.
  13. As I think about the subject I am digging through my memories for bands assembled for the Chicago Jazz Festival. First is my grouping of Randy Weston, Johnny Griffin, Richard Davis and Art Blakey. Second might be a Jimmy Smith jam session with Bill Hardman, Junior Cook, Lou Donaldson and Ray Crawford - we tried for Blakey again but Jimmy wound up bringing Kenny Dixon. Maybe more later.
  14. The issues I remember were drawn from the Black Lion/Freedom catalog.
  15. Didn't Pops say he thought PP meant pound plenty?
  16. Fine recording. edit to ask about the player giving you doubts.
  17. I was looking for bboks. Am I out of luck? I am only missing 3.
  18. Nice to see you active again.
  19. Larry, I expected you to mention the Konitz, Atlas, Campbell gig.
  20. Fascinating but not great: Andrew Hill, Roscoe Mitchell, Wilbur Ware and Thurman Barker.
  21. That band recorded for Delmark.
  22. I have no way to calculate the number.
