  1. Don DeMicheal was one of my best friends. I met him in 1964/5 - not sure. We became fast friends over the years and I miss him every day of my life. I think he was the best editor Down Beat ever had.
  2. I think you are overthinking this big time.
  3. The internet is their friend. Needle drop no doubt.
  4. I thought it had been determined the box transfer was mp3.
  5. I have never heard of Universal using mp3s. Why would they do that?
  6. They probably didn't have the tapes. I've had a single cdr of the material for years. The material has circulated as "Personal Mel Lewis Reel to Reel Tapes."
  7. Jan Johansson.
  8. Do you have me blocked? I gave that info a while back.
  9. Still trying to figure out what "half Faure" sounds like.
  10. Same here. I have known some of these recordings from the '70s. The Symphonic Variations are my favorite recording of the piece. I had it on a Supraphon lp and it was available on Nonesuch at the time. The recordings of the symphonies are from the early '70s and are not the same as the 2 disc sets offered on Amazon. When digital raised its head, Supraphon had Neumann do new ddd versions for the marketplace. The earlier recordings are superior. Just thought some folks might like to know what they have.
  11. Change the header Joe.
  12. As I understand it, headphones clamp on your head from ear to ear. Is that correct?
  13. Not sure anyone "hung out" with Murrow.
  14. With only a quick scan of this thread, it seems I need to do battle with Joe (friggin') Fields to protect my reputation! Dang. Did I miss something else?
  15. Don't know about Clyde. He didn't move to Green Bay did he? Here is the original cover of the recording in question:
  16. I said "con-man" because in order to do their work con artists typically must pretend to have emotions (i.e. deep concern for those they aim to bilk) that they don't actually have, and there was something about much of Morgan's "comeback" era playing that gave me that feeling -- in particular, that the overtly emotional gestures in his playing seemed to be just that, something separate from rather than the inevitable outgrowth of the musical flow. I should add, though I can't be wholly sure about this, that I think I had this feeling before rather than after after I became aware of the details of Morgan's criminal career. I'm with Larry on this one.
  17. This is not a string section as such - all solo voices. Joseph Livoisi - violin David Uchitel - viola William Eder - cello Clyde Lombardi - bass
  18. During that week a the Showcase I spent a lot of time with Art and Laurie. We were putting together a group of "Art Pepper All Stars" for the Chicago Jazz Festival. I had Russ Freeman, Jack Sheldon and Shelly Manne booked. We had not finalized the bass player, so that was left unsettled. I will never forget driving around the city one night looking for food at 4 am. We wound up at a Golden Nugget on Lincoln ave.
  19. If he has "Politics/Religion" blocked, would his search find it?
  20. It would be nice to see the contents. Unless something is "really special" I will stick with my original Contact lp ordered by mail a thousand years ago.
