  1. It makes a difference if you were there when this stuff was happening. Regular contact with some of the participants adds more color. Lots of folks would pay $7000 for an Edsel today.
  2. Hit Dusty Groove today and bought cds by Marion Brown, Larry Young, Johnny Griffin and Gene Shaw. All of these happen to be replacements for long lost lps (sold the bulk of my vinyl to finance the Art Ensemble box). I have around 8000 cds, 2000 lps (remaining) and a few hundred 78s. The disease began around 1958 and lingers.
  3. Larry who? Edit to add I met Larry in 1966/67 and he remains one of my best friends.
  4. Chuck I like this idea. What was the concept, from your perspective? I'm imagining standards approached similar to the Marsh/Mitchell duets? The idea was for Warne to play whatever he wanted.
  5. I've attended sessions where fades were pre-arranged by the musicians. Willis Jackson's Single Action was one you must know. Some artists don't want to be bothered with writing endings.
  6. Both. Depended on the track/arrangement/Alfred. As usual on dates.
  7. I saw the Rivers/Holland/Altschul band in Chicago around 1977. Talked to Dave and Barry (at the club) about making a record with Warne Marsh (they were up for it but thought Warne wouldn't agree). Warne did not disagress but it never happened, damn it! Mentioned this to Barry a couple of years ago and he remembered.
  8. India Navigation licensed the titles from Why Not some years after the initial release in Japan. The cdrs were "authorized" by Threadgill but not totally legal.
  9. I got it from Import CD (via Amazon) for just under $50 including shipping. It was the European version. I see the price has jumped since then.
  10. Miss Otis Regrets.....
  11. Sad it takes a death like this to get you back.
  12. These sets make it difficult for smaller companies selling new music or reissues of neglected music. They can do these "cheap" sets because of artfully written contracts and the power of mass.
  13. Thanks for the clarity. In my life, I've now lost both parents, 5 cats and 4 dogs. Thank (whatever god), I still have my mate and she has one surviving parent. My 2 children both live. I'm sorry but I find phrases like "If there's anything much sadder than losing a pet, I'm not sure I know what it is" insulting. I guess your experiences differ. I am sorry about the loss of Conrad's pet.
  14. That is not my job.
  15. sorry.
  16. In the morning you might wish to clean up this post.
