  2. Thanks for not posting a pic of Ben Stiller!!!
  3. Maybe because it's not a metal-spine box? Neither is the Silent Way box.
  4. Wonder why they didn't include the Cellar Door box?
  5. Maurice McIntyre Anthony Braxton Russell Procope Roscoe Mitchell Johnny Dodds Sidney Bechet Pee Wee Russell Lester Young The Noone influenced players like Goodman and Defranco (for me) are accomplished, but not great. I am biased towards Albert system players - I love the sound. I'm most interested in "original" approaches.
  6. Just remember the label's name rhymes with phlegm.
  7. I spent my formative years in a Red Camp and that is why BERIGAN is such a joke for me.
  8. Yet another valuable contribution from Chris!
  9. You will both be mightily impressed.
  10. I'd think boring your students is your job.
  11. As I understand it, most of the masters were owned by the artists, not the label.
  12. I said it was very near that for me. I now have hundreds of cds, lps and tapes. Around the same time I connected (in that way) to Elvis and Little Richard. I have collected all, but the Ellington connection sent me on my life path. My ipod only has Ellington, for my trips from home. Any other recollections/connections?
  13. I think it's Hancock, or Haig, or Triglia.
  14. Jim seems to be into some stuff that makes me wonder...... The rest of the title is "I'd have a tough time".
  15. Jeez, I hope "male jazz vocalists" don't make it to some government "protected" list.
  16. His relationship with anyone on stage seemed glacial. I saw him around 20 times. That was part of playing the role of "Johnny Hodges".
  17. Jimmy Carter Jimmy John Jimmy Blythe
  18. She was a special human at a necessary time.
  19. NY Times
  20. Time to state the mono rules -
  21. I was just pointing out this was his commercial starting point - nothing else intended.
  22. It's the "start" Frank gave us.
  23. Perhaps major labels still follow an unwritten rule not to poach each other, despite the European copyright law. So how come these tracks are on the US box? If I read the item descriptions on Amazon correctly both were reissued by Sony. So how come Sony managed to include them for the US release but not for the European one? Doesn't look like a case of "not poaching each other" but more like some other behind the curtain scheme... Sony probably leased the material from Universal for the US market only.
  24. Wrong Face to Face!, you would not have to "slug your way through" The Baby Face Willette disc!
