And a tricky one to get a good copy of. Lots of copies with breakfast fry-up hiss !
The very first editions with the large DG have no hiss. The later, with narrow DG have sometimes. The last with no DG at all, has the hiss.
Correct, in my experience with New Jazz pressing, this is pretty common. Usually large DG's sound much better then later pressings.
All the noise you hear is the degradation of the metalwork.

Do you mean that at NJ they used and reused the very same plate?
They used the same mothers to make new plates.
