  1. Why does Cliff insist on his demonstrations of asshole status? Can't we all declare him the winner and move on?
  2. As the "old guy" in most of my joint listening sessions, I appreciate your sentiments. I'm sure he valued your participation more than you know. Thanks to you.
  3. 'cept he undervalues the pre-bop recordings. From the early recordings in 1939 there was something special happening. Alfred Lion's work from Ammons, Lewis and Hines thru Monk, Silver, Nichols, Hill and Taylor is an exemplar for all who follow.
  4. Just hope your legs hold out.
  5. Too much chicken fat.
  6. First Dobson quote I'd agree with.
  7. Think you might have details wrong.
  8. That's one on my wish list! And a tricky one to get a good copy of. Lots of copies with breakfast fry-up hiss ! The very first editions with the large DG have no hiss. The later, with narrow DG have sometimes. The last with no DG at all, has the hiss. Correct, in my experience with New Jazz pressing, this is pretty common. Usually large DG's sound much better then later pressings. All the noise you hear is the degradation of the metalwork. Thanks for the explanation! Do you mean that at NJ they used and reused the very same plate? They used the same mothers to make new plates.
  9. I read someplace that Cannonball was the one who suggested that song to Miles. Miles was deep into Jamal way before Cannonball was around. As usual, check your reading sources.
  10. What Mr Lowe said.
  11. Must admit I preferred Francis as Mrs. Miles Davis to Mr. Terry Gross. Much better than Betty or Bette. I may have made a mistake but that woman earned a couple of grammys.
  12. Now listening to Otic 1005, Bobby Naughton, Leo Smith & Perry Robinson The Haunt.

  14. Best of luck Dan. That could be a sweet gig for you.
  15. Tricky Lofton Dick Nixon Marni Nixon
  16. I was hoping a message like this would arrive at some point. Thanks for the measured response.
  17. Yes, fine evening of tasteful, musical entertainment. The Vegas, Skids, Nessas and company had a fine time.
  18. Not a nice guy in my book.
  19. I knew Francis 10+ years before I heard his wife so that never crossed my mind.
  20. We can wait 'til your funds are depleted and you are like most of us.
  21. Nice try. I don't want to revisit stuff still in the memory banks.
