Hard to deal with all the opinions of people not alive when it was released. It seemed a nice record at the time and we were thankful. The above is a delayed reaction to some posts in the thread about some words Cuscuna typed a few years ago. I find it all stupid and have refused to jump in. Better things to do. Sorry for my intrusion.

Kurt is a really nice guy and works hard at his version of the "art form". Not my "cup of tea" as he found out 15 years ago when I said something like "I don't do vocalists". Then he signed with BN - says something about my "commercial" vision. Jazz vocal fans should check him out. Point of reference - I think Mark Murphy is silly.

I read this while enjoying Willis's "Bar Wars". A favorite around here. I made an interesting (maybe only to me) discovery a few minutes ago. My listening was interrupted by a call for help with yard work and when I returned and heard the music I had forgotten what was on the player. For an instant I thought the radio was on and identified the players as Guy Lafitte and Wild Bill! They were playing "The Breeze and I" (alt) and within a couple of seconds I knew reality, but the connection was surprising. Now Peter is going to have to reconsider his Lafitte recordings.

I ordered a few (3, I think) Toscanini doubles on BMG from them. Card charged instantly, nothing ever arrived (delivery dates kept moving out on their site) and I finally cancelled. They had my $100+ for 120 days before I received credit. My experience has been their orders usually take 5-21 days longer than anyone else. I only order when they are the only source or are much cheaper.

That is the second cover. The first was an etching or drawing and the cover was laminated. The story as I understand it: Blue Note planned 2 lps. The ESP replicates the planned second volume (4211). The first volume was to include Story Teller, I Don't Love You, Children's Books and Architecture. Test pressings exist in the BN files, as do tape copies. When ESP issued their lp BN cancelled the releases and Ornette provided the Golden Circles as replacements.

Chubby Jackson should be included. Maybe Earl Spencer too.

I believe it also incuded Savoy, Mercer, Motif and Dial material.

AT THE TIME, I bought the first 2 Henderson Milestones and stopped. I thought he'd "left the path". Not much of later listening has deterred me from this impression. He was a "consummate professional" and fine tenor player, but I viewed him outside the history.

One night when I was there the next table was occupied by Sue and Charles Mingus. They were eating dinner. On another night I was with Michael Cuscuna, Maxine Gregg, Shirley Seltser (sp?) and Dexter Gordon. I'm sure all the conversations messed with the music. as in maxine gregg/maxine shaw/maxine gordon!! Yup.

YES, this is the top level of jazz today. Might be a "fun show" but I would expect more.
