  1. Unfortunately, Universal owns very few (if any) of these.

    Paul Bley

That is a great record. Unfortunately, the Black Lion CD suffers from a pretty bad transfer. The music holds up though, and I'd still say buy it, especially if you can find it used somewhere. The Black Lion cd includes a live version of "Blood" (18:47) from the lp "Paul Bley in Haarlem". The Fontana lp titled "Blood" is also a worthy date.
  3. It may be that it's because the Lawrence Welk organization owns the masters. Some of them came out in Europe through FNAC -- their version of the (great-sounding) Jimmy Rushing on a twofer CD, while the US version was on a single disc, dropping some tracks. Unconscionable, I say... The Welk group did issue all the Rushing material on 2 (jumbled) cds as well as a couple "best ofs". They hired Sam Charters to produce a series of reissues and he is to blame for the mess.
  4. Grilled pork loin with a rub supplied by my brother. Add herb potatos, veggies and you have a fine meal.
  5. Or about .027% of Braxton's.
  6. Or about 3% of Steve Lacy's output.
  7. This was originally an "America" recording and as AFAIK it has not been reissued on cd.
  8. So now you are teasing Brazilians?
  9. Thanks for the help.
  10. I've heard that Roy Eldridge, back in the mid-70s, encouraged Scott to leave New England for New York City. Just like Roy to ask him to move.
  11. Thanks. I am willing to pay more for "quality" but will check them out.
  12. Had Marcus a couple of times at the Chicago Jazz Festival including a dandy Ray Charles reunion with Fathead, Hank Crawford, etc. Wonderful musician and fellow, but he still owes me for some long distance calls from our house a few years back.
  13. I think the "above" explains my question. Thanks.
  14. The real bummer is that Tabackin got cut out. I'd love to see/hear how he came back in and moved it somewheres else, wherever that place might be. That would be entertainment! Indeed. That's the first thing I thought of when I spotted LT in the background. Wayne is friggin' wonderful.
  15. No! His "fan base" is trying to find a record store and stop at Starbucks to rest.
  16. I love the first one (blue cover) and have recommended it a few times on this board. Wish I could find the cd version of his stuff with Getz.
  17. Honestly, that's the only emotion I could muster. We be "the man".
  18. I don't think Sonny chooses material 'cause they are "fairly mundane standards". He finds stuff other folks missed.
  19. If I remember correctly, the Jazzland edition (which is how I first heard it as well) was retitled "Shadow Waltz". I replaced it with the Japanese edition in the late 70's. Also have the session on the Riverside/Contemporary Rollins box that Fantasy issued a few years ago. This is one of my favorite Sonny albums, especially the extended title track. Correct on the Jazzland title. Never picked up the box.
  20. Buy all the wild/crazy Wayne Shorter boots you can find.
  21. Guy didn't say that! Notice the quotes.
  22. I replaced my crappy Jazzland pressing with a Japanese Victor lp years ago and live with that.
