  1. I thought Richard M Jones was a pianist and composer of an old an extremely well known blues song, which I can't remember at the moment What did he have to do with that LP? MG He was also talent scout/producer for the Okeh label in Chicago. His influence in the field was enormous.
  2. Outstanding! Thanks again Brownie.
  3. I have a copy of Eric Dolphy's Outward Bound on a gold label Prestige. It's not mentioned in the Goldmine book. That's 7311, another with no release date listed. MG FWIW, the Schwann listings were dated when first published. The issue date was often 2 months earlier. Schwann also asked for promo copies to "verify information". If you sent the record the details were printed, if you didn't they only listed the record. In the early '70s while managing a chain of record stores in Boston I discovered the reason for the demand of promos - William Schwann would drive up to the store's front door and sell the records out of the trunk/boot. What a creep.
  4. Got the mono lp while in school (40+ years ago) and still have it. A fine example of "reduced" Ellington in the '50s/'60s era.
  5. "Harkining back" is not my favorite mode of musical expression. I don't think I'm your "dear man".
  6. So...........
  7. You were trying to say?
  8. Yeah, that's what I need to do. Get a friggin' grip. Go back and read my post. Edit to post: Deal with the costume shit. If you want to discuss historical AACM costumes, take me on. I was there.
  9. I dont think thats very nice. Just because a woman chooses to wear a short skirt on occasion doesn't neccessarily mean she's trying to use a "crutch" of any sort. The many times I've seen her perform I am pretty certain that this sort of thinking is not part of her thought in presentation. She seems to me to just be a free spirit and very confident in herself--which is something I think she needs in such a male dominated art form. If you want to see a female artist using that stuff as a crutch look at somebody like Mindy Abair... but all that aside I am just most interested in talking about her music not her "look". Lets get back to that. I don't give a shit about her looks. I'm looking for music to interest me. I think the "visual image" messes all that stuff up and a male could not do that. If Sonny Rollins or Anthony Braxton show up "in costume" I'll back off.
  10. Don't think I said that, though that's ok with me.
  11. I really think she's happy with her thighs. The rest of it too. I'd be more receptive if she didn't use those "crutches" but probably wouldn't know of her if she didn't.
  12. Is she related to Mantan Moreland? Sorry, this is the best Lowe impression I can do.
  13. Son House John Houseman Johnny E
  14. I bought Sony and BMG today.
  15. I did not know that! They were called "discrete quad", SQ and QS.
  16. "On top of their game" is a very generous overstatement (at least as far as Mitchell, Braxton and Smith are concerned), IMO. I will try to catch them live, of course, but my expectations are not too high. Your smug attitude is sad. Please demonstrate the "degradation" of these musicians and explain your "expertise". Don't bother going to the gigs. Please detail your reasons for dismissing their current work.
  17. Clem and Chew lead the pack but most really follow other posts and don't make sense on their own. Context is everything. edit to enter the last sentence.
  18. Nobody mentioned there were at least 3 quad systems on the market in the vinyl days.
  19. These recordings are "treasures" of the BN catalog. "Star Bright" is a masterpiece and the rest aren't far behind. "Asia Minor" is fine.
  20. Prestige 7326, a reissue of Saxophone Colossus, had gold labels.
  21. BTW, answering Mommy's question, I will probably reissue "Saga of the Outlaws" this year. I also hope to reissue Roscoe's "Nonaah" and Wadada's "Spirit Catcher". If you care, keep your fingers crossed for extra material on each.
  22. Don't know the mechanics of the deal but here's a quote from an email, "Dave does receive some royalties from the BYG catalog, although he's an exception as he an agent that aggressively tracks this stuff. It's not much however. " Probably publishing money paid by Byg licencees. Certainly not artist royalties.
  23. Promos be good.
  24. Who's Yanni? Is there a bail fund?
  25. Hmm -- maybe I really AM dumb. Chas is smarter than the rest of us.
