  1. I don't think so. IMHO, Besides being too simplistic, I feel it is wrong.
  2. Can't say that I heard "restrictions" as much as I did "restructurings" and/or "redistributions". Never heard him sound less than himself. Please explain the "restructurings". I do want to understand. Who said he didn't sound "like himself"?
  3. Lots of stupid, impractical stuff in this thread. I don't give a fuck about the media conglomerates EXCEPT they do spend the money to preserve the original sources. Commercial master owner's concerns do have contractual obligations not passed on to the PD folks - Sony/BMG have to pay royalties to the estates of Ellington and Armstrong (for example) not paid by companies in "50 year" countries (JSP, Definitive, etc). Add to that the expense of preserving the masters and you have a recipe for a huge cultural purge. I'm just presenting the dilemma. I do have a "fish in the pond". In 1967 I borrowed money to record some music and continued to work this way until today. Eleven years from now this material will be PD and subsequent sessions fall by the year. If I had spent the money on "physical" property, I could pass this on to my children and they to their children, etc. In numerous threads on this topic I have suggested a compulsory license as used in the print music business, but nobody seems to care. These folks don't want solutions, they want cheap music when they want it. Selfishness on all fronts.
  4. It sounds like he's moved a few miles.
  5. I watched it. I hope Skid did. Thanks for the post.
  6. Not really true from my experience - recordings and in person. Prime Time restricted Ornette's melodic flow and restricted his rhythmic alterations. These are the two most important aspects of Ornette for me. I can appreciate the Prime Time on its own terms but I will never "love it" as I do most of his output.
  7. There is a good excuse to reissue this material.
  8. Why? I've gotten great LP tranfers using the soundcard and Goldwave. Although it would certainly save steps if their software recognizes track breaks and splits up the tracks automatically and also sets levels, I fail to see the advantage otherwise. If the point in bypassing the soundcard is the fact that soundcards are easy to overdrive, well - set the levels lower. When copying the fewer links in the chain, the better.
  9. INport bypasses your sound card. That is usually a good thing.
  10. I want to be Chuck Nessa. Are you sure you want all the nasty PMs that go with that name?
  11. In another thread I have recommended Inport. It bypasses your sound card and creates wav files on your hard drive. I use it regularly and am delighted. It is an Australian firm so I would imagine it is market in the UK. I paid around $60 for it. Read details HERE.
  12. Sound sucks. Ignore it.
  13. Sidewinder seems to play one lp per minute.
  14. Must be reasons for that.
  15. Enjoy your convenient "Adorran/Spanish" reissues. They are in business to "preserve" the music, so I hear.
  16. Why should Universal (just an example) preserve original masters of Armstrong, Dodds, Ellington, etc (at a significant expense) if the shit belongs to ALL? Does ALL have a huge temp/humidity vault prepared to store and preserve this stuff?
  17. FUCK! Time to pay attention or lose it.
  18. The real problem is not about some "filthy rich aging rockers" but saving "primary source material" in posession of the folks paying for it. To take one huge international company - Universal. They spend tons of money to preserve the masters of Brunswick/Vocalion (teens-early '30s), Decca ('30s- whatever), Verve, Impulse, Dot, etc. Why spend the tens of thousands of dollars to preserve the source material if it "belongs to all". I do not think "all" will pony up the bucks to do this work.
  19. No info but a great thanks for playing our area. Wonderful band and good show. Very nice folks to boot. Buy the cds.
  20. Lots of snotty stuff in this thread and little clarity. Why does trashing someone raise someone else. We all need to attempt an impersonation of adulthood. Edit to add: No critic understands the time needed to properly prepare a kazoo reed.
  21. I "turned" on Sanders quickly. Did not keep any vinyl or purchase any cds. Yours truly, TIP
  22. Company 2 on Incus Bailey, Braxton, Parker
  23. Yes, or better yet a master copy sent to a licensee. As I said before, EMI issued a needle drop of the AEC's Les Stances A Sophie when I have a first class tape in my basement.
