Now we enter the realm of "interpretation / recreation" which is a different animal than jazz, blues, pop or contemporary classical composers. Two different things and I'm sad to say I feel the "society" is accepting the former instead of the latter currently and this "attitude" has the upper hand in the marketplace. All participants can take blame/credit for this situation.

It's a sad state of affairs when musicians go in search of an audience to satisfy instead of the reverse. That makes the musicians marketeers first and we all lose.
  4. There never is any resolution. You know that.
  5. Jamey was a good friend 30+ years ago but personal dealings with the kid led me to refuse doing business with the outfit.
  6. Where else has Mr/Mrs/Ms Olds posted? He/she shows up on this thread "out of the blue" and enters into subterfuge (go back and compare his defenses). Let this troll go.
  7. Brownie... you don't need to dance; you speak French. You win the 'hot guy' award by that alone... "Dang"! That's French in Indiana isn't it?
  8. After losing Universal in a merger deal he engineered, I doubt Bronfman Jr will risk his latest venture.
  9. Street team.
  10. But Chuck, when you dance, you're charming and you're gentle. Especially when you do the Continental. But this feeling isn't purely mental For heaven rest us, I'm not asbestos And that's why i won't dance, why sould I?
  11. I won't dance. Don't ask me.
  12. Did I just read a Moose waffle?
  13. Yeah, I had to refresh about 4 times last time I changed it.
  14. Which avatar are you seeing? Did you try refreshing a couple times?
  15. Tatas-Matoes (1968).
  16. This '56 classic/piece of crap is on tonight for you interested parties. Jayne Mansfield, Edmond O'Brien and Tom Ewell are listed as the "stars" but the real stars are (in no particular order) Fats Domino. Julie London, Little Richard, the Platters, Ray Anthony, Gene Vincent, the Treniers, Eddie Cochran and Abbey Lincoln. All in glorious color. Those were the days.
  17. Hey guys, what happened to hockey?
  18. I don't think for a minute they weren't edited by management. Music directors do this all the time and a control freak wouldn't pass this up. Not saying they were false, just "tweaked".
  19. Buy a clunker in the east and sell it when you get home.
  20. Nothing happened to free speech here, so why the fake name? Free subterfuge gets equal footing? You picked the name, you take the consequences. OK? I believe most radio play lists are generated to please constituencies, not reflect reality. I believe the DBOT was aired frequently but since it was a "fourth quarter" release, don't believe it should have made the cut for 2004 most played list. I do believe the Deep Blue disc is fine and look forward to the new one. Thanks, it's been a pressure.
  21. So what? First post by a new member is in THIS thread? No flags? It was a flag for me and I was curious. I might be paranoid about the Heimster and all the crap foisted on the listeners, employees, artists, interested parties, etc over the years BUT this is no random post by a "member" without a mission. Jim, your experience was good but you should understand there is a long history (20+ years) of other folks.
  22. Weren't no jazz classes when I was in school but I did take a wonderful "music appreciation" class at the University of Iowa. The course was taught by Eldon Obrecht and I owe that man a huge thank you. He introduced me to Bruckner, Mahler, Schoenberg, Bartok, etc. He was warm, kind and most importantly enthusiastic. I remember asking if he would be lecturing on jazz in the next semester and he said no but invited me to bring some favorites to his office and we could discuss them. I took him up on the offer and the only thing I remember playing was Saxophone Colossus. He regaled me with stories of listening to Tatum and others on 52nd St while on leave during the war. The next semester he brought in Gunther Schuller to speak to the class about "third stream". All this made me think of him and Google turned up this.
