  1. I lived in Madison at the time and had some contact with him during his tenure. IIRC he flunked all the students not attending a Miles Davis concert that year - not quite the entire class.
  2. Thanks.
  3. Yes, #17 has CSC on 12 tracks. I see Worlds still has the Classics 1933-34 listed. He's on all 23 tracks of this disc. I should add a couple of points. There are vocals on the majority of tracks on the 33/34 disc. This is also relatively late in the game for tuba in rhythm sections. Most recordings by this time have string bass but Cyrus is still swingin' the band. Check him out on "Jimmy Had A Nickel".
  4. Just checked out the contents of #37 and not much Cyrus on that one. I'll check out some others and be back shortly.
  5. Just to provide a little "context" for Mr. Goldstein's comments I wish to mention he was "Executive Director" at Antilles (about 25 years ago) when they recorded Ornette, Braxton and Air.
  6. I'm not Brownie but I don't think it was reissued on cd. IIRC the 2 lp set had 3 sides of Johnson and one side by the Lloyd and Cecil Scott bands with Dickie Wells, etc. The Charlie Johnson material was issued on cd. I have it on Hot 'N Sweet FDC-5110.
  7. Sorry I can't be more help - I just really discovered him working my way thru the Clarence Williams Classics discs. He made tons of sides with Williams from 1926 through April of 1937. I'm still digesting this stuff and can't narrow the area yet.
  8. Chuck, do you know if anything is missing on the five CDs, as compared to the Mosaic? Same question for Mingus (where I think nothing is missing, but don't know for sure)! IIRC the Taylors miss one take of Air. Not sure about the Mingus.
  9. If all goes as planned, the 2nd Dameronia on Uptown "Look Stop and Listen" will be out later this year.
  10. Yes, it's part of a bizarre scientific event known as Amanuensis whiplash. [see: Markab, Saussure, and Caldwell (2002) Expressions of Collapse: The submaterial paradigm of reality. Oxford University Press] AKA rear view mirror. See: Chuck Nessa (2006) Diverted Reality.
  11. FWIW, I always enjoyed Aric's spirit until the end of his tenure here when he wished bad things for many. He went "over the top" at the end but I'd welcome him back if he made amends. But that is really up to Jim.
  12. Had a promo copy back in the day and dumped it. Wasn't a big Joe Hen fan anyway.
  13. First - Okka and Atavistic have always swapped cds to sell on their respective sites. Second - the Okka site was working about a week ago when I last visited. Third - I received an email from Bruno on the 10th of April. Fourth - if you need some Okkas, I can supply them too. Rod, Bruno bought a bar in Milwaukee a couple years back and now lives there.
  14. Bunch of them "needle drops" so I hear.
  15. Did they really ship the "working" cover or was this an internet thing? Doesn't really matter to me since I live with a JRVG version but I'm curious.
  16. Where do you get Insect Trust? Go to the friggin' doctor. This bugs me.
  17. You are responsible for the outer sleeves?
  18. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. There was more material from the X-75 sessions but not enough for a 2nd disc. Henry planned to do more later but the project was dropped. Not sure about the 12th St address but in the early '80s Air had a rehearsal studio at 336 East 13th, between First and Second Avenues.
  20. Didn't recognize you in drag.
  21. The five Taylor cds do not duplicate any performances but do contain multiple takes of some pieces.
  22. I'm sorry that race is part of the picture. Let's suppose she was white. I don't think a stripper with that history should be able to ruin the reputations of college students. And that might be too bad. We just don't know.
  23. Well?? How is it? Worthy of a reissue? ALL Ellington is worthy of reissue. You just don't need to buy them all.
