  1. Thanks Mr Kramden.
  2. NOT Bill Coleman.
  3. The sax player looks a bit like Chris Woods.
  4. Just in time for the new cd reissue.
  5. Bailey was a very interesting singer (of her time) with intelligent backgrounds. I think the old Columbia 3 lp set was about ideal for most folks. I'd buy that Legacy reissue in a minute. But I found the Mosaic set too big and too expensive for the music. I'm happy they issued the complete set and happy to not buy it. Berkshire has offered the Andoran reissue of 4 discs at "cut-out" prices and I've resisted that. Sorry Mildred.
  6. CM was a "decent" player at one point, then he took another path to money. That is fine for him. He had a choice of "art/music" or "music/income". He chose one. It worked out for him (for a while) and it might have worked for you. It didn't work for me. DSFDF.
  7. Very superficially.
  8. I've been exploring the Clarence Williams stuff and Cyrus cut thru a lot of "crap". He was really swinging (before most soloists in the '20s) and playing his ass off. He helped create some interesting textures. Got to go to bed now but (if I remember) tomorrow I'll make a couple of listening recommendations.
  9. This guy is amazing. If it hadn't been for Charlie Johnson and (especially) Clarence Williams, we wouldn't know about him. Please check him out and discuss.
  10. I hate it when they remove punctuation marks.
  11. Sonny Rollins in Japan, 9/30/73. The "newest" Rollins I own.
  12. 18. Just got it yesterday. Joke.
  13. IIRC, this is the same as the Americans Swinging In Paris disc.
  14. I know I've posted this before but it is still a favorite.
  15. Not all of the applause is studio fakery.
  16. Does this mean none of you are hiding eggs tonight?
  17. Might be Steve Jobs' favorite color.
  18. Torb Holm Milo Helland Alfred Jacobson Complete nessa catalog to anyone linking these.
  19. That is true until sometime around the last part of the '70s when the labels were only "Black Lion" markings on the records.
  20. That's probably 'cause you bought the shitty US pressings made by Audio Fidelity. In Europe they were pressed variously by Polydor/Polygram in England, RCA in France and Sonopress in Germany. There may have been others but that's what I remember.
  21. Can we book a room for you guys?
