  1. Ellington's Fargo Concert. One small correction; I only do work for Uptown - it ain't mine.
  2. Different music from the same session: Mr. Lucky 11:50 Swinging the Blues 9:54 Polka Dots and Moonbeams 11:34 Have No Fear 12:30 Boomerang 5:59 The last track was not included in the lp version. $15 post paid in the US.
  3. Not unless a check arrives in the morning.
  4. I thought this band had a guitarist.
  5. I know both Mark and Bob. AND the Whitehall, MI address rings a bell. Sunenblick started Uptown, Feldman joined him at some point, they "divorced", split some of the masters and moved on. I have told this story (in some detail) a couple of times. Maybe someone can dig them up.
  6. Artistic repect from me. Personal respect is zero. He screwed me for about $400 bucks back in the '70s when we were both in Madison, and I think he's a great artist and personal creep.
  7. Have a banana slide boy!
  8. Kenny, that's because they edit out posts mentioning other BBs. I have been edited and threatened with expulsion on other boards for comments I made about "other boards" or about music by "clients" of the board in question. Worst I ever got here was nonsense from GregN.
  9. Maybe it wasn't a "saxaphone" after all. Getting "real", let's try and help this person. I don't remember the late '90s, but some of you might.
  10. Boy am I confused! One of these people is GregN? Which one?
  11. No worries here.
  12. All the result of a Schlitten/Fields divorce that took about a decade in the courts.
  13. Just a little to the left Mike. Thanks.
  14. I know a couple members were disappointed when I ran out of this cd from my Japanese distributor. I have now negotiated a new supply of this and their reissue of my original Hal Russell NRG Ensemble session. If you require either of these titles, get in touch.
  15. What Mike said.
  16. Careful what you wish for. Mark is really creepy.
  17. I've always had trouble calling from my cell.
  18. What does this have to do with "small group recomendations"?
  19. Jazztropic, for those coming of age before the cd, singles are 45 rpm records. I was really disappointed by the responses to the thread since I had some of these titles on 45 in the past.
  20. Some artists expect the world to "drop at their feet" when they make a record. It is not that simple.
  21. After school, I never thought of collecting autographs. From those days I have Basie and a bunch of guys from the band circa '62 and the Gillespie quintet in transition - Diz, Moody, Lalo, Chris White & Rudy Collins. I do have a copy of John Patton's "Understanding" signed "to Stan, John Patton, organ" but obviously I bought the lp used. I do have some contracts and checks signed by famous musicians. This reminds me of a story Roscoe Mitchell told me about 25 years ago (if I told this before, forgive me). Roscoe was teaching a bunch of young/aspiring musicians and Sonny Rollins came to spend some time with his students. At the end of the session everybody lined up to get Sonny's autograph. Sonny signed them all and Roscoe thinks "this is one of my idols, I should get one too". When Rock presented his piece of paper Rollins says "You're one of the cats, I can't do that". Roscoe told me this with equal amounts of pride and regret.
  22. DAMN! Sonny was one of my first "jazz gods" and having just now read the NYT piece and Stryker's interview I'm back in "high school idolatry" land. Sure wish I liked the bulk of the recordings from the last 40 years more.
  23. He's ageless, ageless I say. Screw birthdays. Celebrate his existence every day!
