Most of the problem is a series of laws giving "property rights" more power than "intellectual rights", and a segment of the population sees this as a "window of opportunity" to take what they want.*
There are creeps in every crowd, I just hope the crowd doesn't continue to grow as it has in the last 15 years.
* the root of the property vs intellectual struggle is it's the property guys with the bulk of the bucks, thus political power. This exists everywhere.
Horse shit!
I sent a pm stating: You used this term in the More Brit-Jazz Vocalion Reissues Coming Up, 'Will Power' etc.... thread. Most folks of Japanese heritage react to this as a number of Americans react to nigger.
This term is a "hold over" from WWII.
Michael, our daughter lives in the area and is always looking for "jazz" gigs to take her friends. I'll forward this thread and maybe you get 2 more tickets sold.
What the heck are you smokin' boy?
How do these guys make a living?
The "audience" of which you are one part, is not nearly as important as the creator of your "good time".
If you need to do "multiple listenings" then you need to pay the artist(s).
I do not accept the rest of your "heebie jeebies".
Only spent any "real time" in Philly once and the lasting memory of a long walk was the stench while walking through the city hall courtyard and arches.
The only "urban experience" to top this was homeless guys taking dumps in the shrubs of the Boston Commons.
I will post a more detailed response later but want to compare this list to my collection, as it stands now:
1917-42 have everything on one disc or another
1943-59 ditto, but where is Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers - BN 1518?
1960-79 missing 3 of these
1980-2000 only have one of these
I have worked on a list like this with a small group and know how difficult it is.
Edit to say the above stats refer to the "expanded" list, not the 25.
Guess I'm behind the curve on post '59 recordings.
This makes it really difficult to program your listening in recording order unless you are working from some "unlimited" wheel 'o' discs.
I say leave them at the end of each disc and give the take numbers so specialists can recreat the real deal.
New jobs used to get me going. I got "f***ed (really badly) twice and stopped.
I hope your new opportunity works as you dream it might. It sounds good.
All the best.
I had this and a couple of lps worth in a 5 disc set on MF, but they are (sadly) gone.
Hines and Budd go "way back" and I have very fond memories of them as part of a Hines reunion band at the Chicago Jazz Festival.
