  1. How's Bird keep that beret on? Duct tape. If he ran out of that, he used something called smack.
  2. You be correct. I think (hope) KB added 1 and 2 to come up with 3. Nice double.
  3. Could it be Mr Eicher does not know about baking tapes? I did explain this to another label owner a few years ago to keep him from "trashing" a bunch of masters.
  4. Has anyone compared the JRVG to the Mosaic mastering? I had the TOCJ and ditched it after I compared it to the Mosaic, but might be willing to purchase this fine session again if the mastering is that great. Never heard the Mosaic but the JRVG is very fine. It is playing now in the Nessa basement. Edit to return and say how FINE Elvin sounds on this.
  5. Larry, I too think KV is a modest player but think he's a good (and active) organizer. This shows up in his performances/recordings where many worthy musicians are "showcased" in a way they would not be without his work.
  6. I have no idea what happened.
  7. They were talking about the same situation in Chicago this morning on WGN.
  8. I got mine from BMG back awhile. In fact that's how I got all the Miles boxes.
  9. No time to sort it all out now, but I think you missed some stuff in the early '80s. Maybe that will suffice after all. Time for bed.
  10. The father of the "white, northside scene" was Hal Russell, not Ken or his friend John Corbett.
  11. Jazz artists do not care how old you are if you pay the cover, have a couple of drinks and buy the cd. B-)
  12. Let me add a big "thank you" for sharing a very personal moment. All wishes to the mom.
  13. The string of lights above Jim's head looks like a couple of breasts hanging down from above. Maybe? Wes, you've been up too late... Wes obviously has a fixation and it is probably keeping him up.
  14. OUTSTANDING!! All the best. I'm curious about the name too. Milo is my father's name, was the name of another farmer down the road and was the name of the guy at the TV shop in town. So, I grew up around 3 Milos but never encountered another in my life. Though I did meet a cat with that name.
  15. I never "sent" it - I hit "preview" and it didn't work. I deleted it now. Back to the drawing board.
  16. Scorpio has been around for 30+ years as a major source of "cut-outs" for retailers. As the vinyl dried up, they started licensing stuff to make their own product. They are (AFAIK) honest but "product oriented" as opposed to "sound oriented". This is not in any way meant as a "dis", just a way to inform you of their priorities.
  17. No mention of a fave from my school days - Oliver Nelson's Takin' Care of Business : Oliver Nelson (as,ts) Lem Winchester (vib) Johnny "Hammond" Smith (org) George Tucker (b) Roy Haynes (d).
  18. Roy is why my pants stay up "in style". Thanks Jazz!
  19. Sorry to hear the news. In addition to his record, radio and notes reputation, he seemed to be a really fine guy. At some time in my "internet life" he sent me an email saying I was the only name he recognized online. We had a short exchange, but I found him to be one of the "good guys".
  20. We are still at Carla's. Will check out the photos when we get home. There are some group shots with Conn, GregK and the band members. They look ok on the camera.
