  1. Coincidentally picked this one up tonight. I had been considering the SACD version since it came out, but had yet to pull the trigger on that one. I found the standard CD issue at B&N and bought it along with a few RCA Living Stereo SACDs on the cheap. I've only listened to a little of Concierto. All of You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To and Concierto de Aranjuez. This group really meshes well. It's some of the prettiest playing by Baker and Desmond that I've heard. I have to admit I like this version of Concierto de Aranjuez better than the one on Sketches of Spain. It's softer, easier to chill to. The sound on the CD is excellent. I can't imagine it sounding any better on SACD...although it is a MFSL. Apparently there is a rave review of the SACD by John Mark in Feb '05 issue of Stereophile.
  2. I pulled this one out right after the Hill and Pepper sets arrived. It seems like I pass this one over a lot because of the last disc being just a little too cheesy for me...the vocals are at least...but having listened to it again I'm wondering why I waited so long to take it off the shelf. I really dig track 4 on disc 3. There's just so much going on. I listened to it several times focusing in one just one instrument - really listening to what was there. Simply amazing.
  3. I'm almost afraid too.... but I'll keep checking FindLaw.com for Illinois Appellate court documents that may include additional facts.
  4. That's funny. I hadn't made it to the liner notes yet but was listening to this the other night and was wondering who was on trumpet. I saw Jack Sheldon and thought to myself, I'm gonna have to check into this guy. I know nothing about him - but really enjoyed his playing.
  5. I do. I've only been seriously into jazz for about 5 or 6 years so most of the RVGs have been new to me. Recently there have been some duplicates, but I happily pass along the previous editions to my parents.
  6. Sperm: The 'gift' that keeps on giving Court dismisses man's theft claim against lover who kept semen The Associated Press Updated: 2:39 p.m. ET Feb. 24, 2005CHICAGO - An appeals court said a man can press a claim for emotional distress after learning a former lover had used his sperm to have a baby. But he can’t claim theft, the ruling said, because the sperm were hers to keep. The ruling Wednesday by the Illinois Appellate Court sends Dr. Richard O. Phillips’ distress case back to trial court. Phillips accuses Dr. Sharon Irons of a “calculated, profound personal betrayal” after their affair six years ago, saying she secretly kept semen after they had oral sex, then used it to get pregnant. He said he didn’t find out about the child for nearly two years, when Irons filed a paternity lawsuit. DNA tests confirmed Phillips was the father, the court papers state. Phillips was ordered to pay about $800 a month in child support, said Irons’ attorney, Enrico Mirabelli. 'Trapped in a nightmare' Phillips sued Irons, claiming he has had trouble sleeping and eating and has been haunted by “feelings of being trapped in a nightmare,” court papers state. Irons responded that her alleged actions weren’t “truly extreme and outrageous” and that Phillips’ pain wasn’t bad enough to merit a lawsuit. The circuit court agreed and dismissed Phillips’ lawsuit in 2003. But the higher court ruled that, if Phillips’ story is true, Irons “deceitfully engaged in sexual acts, which no reasonable person would expect could result in pregnancy, to use plaintiff’s sperm in an unorthodox, unanticipated manner yielding extreme consequences.” The judges backed the lower court decision to dismiss the fraud and theft claims, agreeing with Irons that she didn’t steal the sperm. “She asserts that when plaintiff 'delivered' his sperm, it was a gift — an absolute and irrevocable transfer of title to property from a donor to a donee,” the decision said. “There was no agreement that the original deposit would be returned upon request.” Phillips is representing himself in the case. He could not be reached for comment Thursday. “There’s a 5-year-old child here,” Mirabelli said. “Imagine how a child feels when your father says he feels emotionally damaged by your birth.” Source: MSNBC

  8. Did you find the gallery of covers? Never saw it on the menu system when I played the DVD on the computer.
  9. Those horizontal scroll bars can sure be tricky...
  10. Professional athletes (any sport) will never get my respect until the players associations agree to a permanent ban for any player who tests positive for illegal substances. Until that happens and it is legitimately enforced there will be drug problems. Of course it will never happen because there is no economic incentive to make it happen. In fact, there is quite the opposite force at work here. Teams and players alike are at risk at losing serious amounts of cash. So I guess I'll just sit here and let the shockwaves ripple throughout the sports world that my withholding of respect will undoubtedly cause.
  11. #491 for Hill #828 for Pepper
  12. I would definintely agree with that, sidewinder. Joe Henderson certainly makes his presence known on that one. I was listening to Candu and had that theme stuck in my head for a couple of days. Lazy Afternoon is another favorite from that album. Simply beautiful.
  13. UP....more than a year later..... Where is it now? inspired by this thread
  14. Yeah, but what color will the circle be? The white #5 was intentional by the way according to Mosaic. It'll be interesting to see if every so often a random color is thrown in....
  15. He missed the colored circle on the Patton. It should be orange.
  16. That sure is a handsome shelf you have there!
  17. If Chambers were blue and Patton were green all would be right in the world. Damn OCD.....
  18. I'm trying to figure out if I have an albino Select # 5 (Paul Chambers) by mistake or if everyone's looks like mine....
  19. I got the same message as RDK. Looks like they're either working through their backlog of customer service emails or responding to the squeaky wheels.
  20. Keep in mind too that on most of these consolidation plans you get a (sometimes weighted) average of the interest rates that you have on your current loans. At least that is what I recall from several of the offers I have seen. For me I have a little left on the higher rates and a little more left at the low rate. So consolidation isn't a real benefit for me. Of course there may be better deals out there now. I simply trash all the offers without even looking at them. I should be done with my loans in the next 18 mos. anyway. It'll be great to write those checks to Mosaic instead of Sallie Mae.
  21. Good luck with that. I like your signature line. That's pretty funny. I broke down and bought the Gigolo a while back and finally understood what all the fuss was about. Great song, great album!
  22. Maybe the link on the DVD to www.bluenote.com/rvg is it.....
  23. hmmmm.... On the back cover of Perfect Takes under the DVD bonus features I see listed: RVG series cover gallery. I can't seem to find that on the DVD menu. I am using the software-based DVD player on my computer at the office... but maybe that feature didn't make the cut.
  24. Just got my RVG shipment from CDU. I watched the RVG interview DVD from Perfect Takes. It was far too short!! There were a few interesting revelations. I won't include any "spoilers" here. All in all I thought the DVD was well done. Lots of Wolff images used in the Ken Burns style. I gotta go play Hi Voltage and Heavy Soul. The two "new" ones for me in this batch.
