  1. I did the same thing but on a slightly smaller scale than Garth. Sometimes upping the contents coverage is the easiest way to go. But for larger collections something along these lines may be in order:
  2. I hope that Mosaic goes after DHL. Seems that's where the fault lies. If a signature was required and one was not obtained, the shipper should bear the loss. I've had a couple of experiences with DHL through Amazon and have been less than impressed by their speed and their online tracking information. Have you walked the halls of your building listening for the sounds of Mulligan....
  3. aww, I love Whistle Stop. I guess it shouldn't be all that surprising, but it really is interesting that one man's passion is another man's poison. Unfortunately my college roommate's passion was Poison. Sheeeeeesh!
  4. Arrrrrghhh! You guys are killing me. I love Byrd. A New Perspective was a bit of a shock to me because I started with so much bebop/hard bop. But I really love that album. Chant and Cristo Redentor are simply beautiful to me. I find myself whistling those tunes all the time. Now if you had picked on the follow-up voices album, I'm Trying To Get Home I may not have been so quick to defend that one. I have a burned copy of that one. For me it didn't measure up to its predecessor. Et tu BruceH? I've got to defend my man Byrd again on Slow Drag. The title track, Book's Bossa, and especially the ballad, My Ideal are all favorites of mine. When the Duke Pearson Select came out I had fun comparing the versions of Cristo Redentor and Book's Bossa. I favor the Byrd versions, but those are two tracks that would probably sound good in anyone's hands.
  5. ooooh!!! I know! I KNOW!! Chris (ro)Botti
  6. Well, it's another batch of RVGs so that means a new spine logo design. Maybe we'll get really lucky and they'll redesign those back covers. I mean isn't everyone tired of seeing BLUE NOTE on there. And those classy photos have just got to go...
  7. In case you want links: Art Blakey - LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE Sonny Clark - DIAL S FOR SONNY Grant Green - FEELIN' THE SPIRIT Horace Silver - HORACE SILVER AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS Wayne Shorter - NIGHT DREAMER Herbie Hancock - SPEAK LIKE A CHILD
  8. E: Yeah, I think you nailed it - especially about the Mosaics. There have been some that were really easy to jump right into, Mobley, Fuller, Mitchell but others took a little while like the Elvin Jones. But you're absolutely right - each time I break it out there's more and more that I find appealing. The large sets are like that. There's so much to discover. Most of my listening occurs at work - with the music taking a back seat - even at home sometimes I'm doing other stuff. But on occasion I'll really sit down, focus and LISTEN to the music. It's then that things really starty to stand out and I begin to appreciate just how amazing it all is. I'd love to grab the Hodges, JJ, and the Stitt. Based on what others here have said I think I'd enjoy them. It's not that I need to be told what to like - it just helps to have a guide to make it through the jazz wilderness. I've learned a lot here and I hope that I can pass along that to others.
  9. I've got Big Swing Face. One of my favorites on that album is his daughter signing The Beat Goes On. It's kinda cheesy, but it sounds as though everyone was having a pretty good time. It just makes me smile.
  10. that sounds like something this guy would say...
  11. I forsee many trips to the emergency room.
  12. I know the feeling. About the time that I write something off as non-essential (to me). Someone posts a rave about certain material and it gets me thinking...maybe I need to check it out after all.
  13. The most amazing thing to me about the iPod Shuffle is the price. $99 for 512Mb and $149 for 1 Gig. That should really shake up the rest of the market....unless others try to justify their higher prices by pointing to the playlist and screen issues. The thing that has me a little perturbed is their availabilty....or lack thereof. See: Apple: Four-week wait for iPod Shuffle over at CNN. These shortages are either due to incompetence (hard to believe) or they are artificial. By delaying shipments the buzz factor rises to a fever pitch and sales go through the roof. Customers are inconvenienced but it's good for the shareholders. The funny thing is that if Microsoft behaved in that manner, all the Gates bashers would be screaming and burning Bill in effigy. Apple does it and people can't stop raving....
  14. Sorry to burst your bubble here but this sounds an awful lot like the ideas people get in trying to topple Wal-Mart. Boycotts are rarely effective unless they are complete. People love to bitch about Wal-Mart.......usually on their way home from Wal-Mart. Seems like the same thing here - I doubt there would be enough people willing...or able to give up eBay. And that is the exact rationale eBay has in upping their fees.
  15. I have the above mentioned album and the more recent Personal Appearance both are very enjoyable and both helped put the Mosaic on my wish list. But 9 discs....whew.... I think JJ Johnson and Johnny Hodges might find their way to me before the Stitt. Of course all that could change if something else hits the endangered species list.
  16. sweet I was planning on making a purchase tonight!!
  17. Gerald Wilson. Sometimes I just get in the mood for this one. I usually end up playing for several days. Today is day one.
  18. Jumbo The Elephant off disc 1 of the Eldridge Mosaic. Super cheesy, but lots of fun.
  19. Yeah. When someone has some new, never before heard music they should act with great speed to get it released......ahem.......
  20. Does anyone have a calendar of events that goes beyond what's on the website (which is usually not as up-to-date as it should be)? Thanks.
  21. I've got a room in my house that I am hardly using. I would gladly offer to store one of everything in the catalog at no charge.......
  22. Rooster and Scottb you guys tied for the best laugh of my day. Thanks guys!!!!
  23. You're more right than you know.... Bath & Body Works: Bergamont Coriander
