Cuong Vu Trio live on Blue Lake Public Radio (USA)
randissimo replied to Lazaro Vega's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
That was really great music and what interesting people! I drove around aimlessly just diggin' their sounds I'd love to hear them live. Too bad they couldn't have hooked up with Schuler's or UICA.. I have to teach lessons the nights they are in Ann Arbor.. So it goes.... randissimo -
Organissimo at Union Cabaret, Kalamazoo

They have a great wine list and an impressive selection of single malt scotches as well as domestic and imported beers.. It looks like the weather will be mild with just a light snowfall.. Not bad weather for a trip to Kalamazoo. -

Maria Schneider Orchestra at Disney Hall tonight.

I heard her band on NPR recently and was very impressed.. There was one composition that was inspired by an experience she had sky diving off a cliff somewhere in Brazil I believe.. The arrangement blew me away! -
Union Cabaret is a great venue for gourmet food and jazz. It is owned and operated by West Michigan University and was created as a venue for students in restaurant cuisine, food & beverage management, and entertainment. We played there in October, 2004 and had a ball! It is a great venue for Organissimo. If any of you live within 5 hours of Kalamazoo it is worth the drive! Dig it, there's a motel 6 nearby that only charges $36. a night for a room! Union Cabaret And Grille 125 S Kalamazoo Mall Kalamazoo, MI 49007 Phone: (269) 384-6756 www.millenniumrestaurants.com

organissimo wins two WYCE Jammie Awards
randissimo replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Thanks in part to you Ogie.. You (and Mike Scot) were the first to help us get our music heard on WYCE when you had that great Friday afternoon show on WYCE.. -
Damn, Mark's doggin' me! Tony's a great player, showman, and an all around nice guy. Gave me a big hug when I introduced myself and said he's been hearing our name more and more, and said, "I'm prayin' for you guys". We traded CDs; his new one, out next week, is a trio with Adam Nussbaum and Bruce Foreman. Haven't had a chance to listen yet, but how can you lose with those guys? Oh yeah, he also mentioned me and organissimo ("a great band") from the stage in the second set - precisely at the moment I had reached the bathroom door at the other end of the room. How did I know that would happen? Sounds like you had a good time Joe. Adam Nussbaum and Bruce Foreman, I want a copy! I played a couple of gigs with Bruce when I lived in the bay area.

Good thing there was some turnover, folks ate dinner, listen to a couple shows, while the front room and lobby overflowed. Over an hour wait to get in for the latecomers. Hats off to them for staying and waiting. Having the video and audio in the anteroom/bar probably helps. It was great seeing you again, and meeting new friends. James Jazz and his wife were very much diggin the music and were very cool. Thanks James. g What a great night indeed... I can't seem to shake the 'warm & fuzzies' ... I love Baker's... Thanks again Paul for coming up and making the night even better with your enthusiastic personage! And James Jazz, nice talkin' with ya... When Drew Evans came down off the bandstand, he dicovered his seat had erroneously been given to a waiting couple. Luckily there was an open seat at Ron Brooks's table..

The Harper/Tolliver engagement at Yoshi's (with John Hicks, Dwayne Burno, and Roy McCurdy) was unbelievable. Tremendous playing, excellent repertoire, all that jazz... Other mentions: Gerald Wilson Orchestra (a local LA gig), Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, and Myra Melford's new Bay Area quartet. Looking forward to McCoy Tyner's two-week residency at Yoshi's (in a few weeks). You're so lucky to live in an area that has so many options.. The closest area to me is Chicago, almost 4 hrs from where I live in good weather.. When I lived in Oakland there were always places to go almost any day of the week..

My favourite was the John Scofield concert in Grand Rapids, at the Intersection, Oct 20th. Sco is a nice cat, a great guitarist and musician, has an outstanding band, and they really cooked well together! We opened for Sco and managed to do a good set in spite of a rushed sound check, poor audio mix, and with only a bass drum coming through in the monitor mix..

2005 Holiday Tunes for you!
randissimo replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
That was my idea .. We were kickin' around some ideas for Xmas tunes in the basement studio and Jim wanted to do an uptempo swing version of Drummer Boy and after playing it a couple of times that way I poo pooed it and said, " Nahhh, that's too cliched, ,, Hey, how about this?" -
Sometimes I'll go to the live chat, set up the sounds, and hang out in the forums, check email, or browse other sites until I'm alerted that somebody is there.. That way I'm not hangin' out in the live chatroom impatiently waiting for other people to chat with..

Thanks Lazaro for all your support.

Could be. Or it could be you just listen to the wrong records. GTO's.. "Girls Together Outrageously".. FZ released a sampler lp in 1968 on his Straight/Bizarre label showcasing Capt. Beefheart, Wild Man Fisher, Lord Buckley, GTO's and Alice Cooper...
