  1. Yes,,, and I'm selling them for $5.00 apiece out of my car with my own cover artwork
  2. and Greaze Monkey (which featured some tasty percussion) The Zappa tune, Peaches in Regalia, was very cool indeed. According to Randy it's on the cusp of inclusion on the CD. Let me urge the movers and shakers downstate: Peaches deserves a spot! Very intertestingly stretches Zappa, and the band's sound, I think. Thnaks, Randy, for the drop-by. You make good radio! Good to see you, and hopefully we'll get to see the lot of you at some point very soon, --eric ← Actually there will probably be a gig in TC sometime this summer... Jeff Haas was talking about a couple of possibilities...
  3. Happy birthness Jim bro! I hope you have a great day!
  4. Sorry we weren't at the Joey show. It was beyond our control. I hope to see you at Baker's, however! Please come up and introduce yourself! ← Just a reminder. Saturday is our debut at Baker's Keyboard Lounge B-)
  5. Lazaro, I caught some of Tom Abbs's set last night and thought, "Man, his "abs" certainly are getting a workout!"
  6. Did any of you catch this program Thursday on Talk Of The Nation? It deals with some interesting issues, especially for the veteran jazz musicians... Here's the link for the program: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4632126
  7. When we, (Organissimo) played the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Festival in Oct 2003, I heard Terry Lynne with Herbie Hancock's trio.. She was really playing inspired.. I would love to hear this concert.. I'm not done teaching drum lessons until 9 pm so I guess I'll miss the webstream opportunity.. Oh well, you'll just have to review the concert..
  8. Have you expressed your concern to him? Maybe his wife can help influence his quitting.. My little sister is seriously addicted...

    Spyro Gyra

A lot of career jazz musicians cross over and back at times into the so called 'smooth jazz' camp. It's economics.. And in fact, lots of the names on the list in an earlier post are actually very accomplished straight ahead players. If I'm offered good money to record or gig with a smooth jazz band or artist I'll do it if I like the music.. If the money's really good I'll do it even if I don't like the music Of course my first allegiance is to Organissimo
  10. You're only 35 once.... I hope you're gonna party somewhere tonight!

    Spyro Gyra

JK, Though I don't think of them as "serious listening" I have enjoyed Spyro Gyra since I first heard them in 1978. I like their music and have played several of their tunes over the years with different bands. By the way, have you checked out any of the Yellow Jacket's lps? Though commercially successful, they have put out some very deep music! For the record, I also have to agree with Mike: However, "top notch playing" - compared to what? Compared to smooth jazz stuff? Sure, and I said as much. Compared to most rock folks? Sure, I'll go along with that. But compared to serious jazz players? Sorry, nope. When these guys were getting noticed, the Pat Metheny Group and the last versions of Weather Report were going. And there ain't no comparison in terms of the musicianship and musicality. SG is more in line with the Jeff Lorber Fusion - occasional nice stuff, but nothing monumental. So, you asked your question, you got an answer you didn't like (from someone who isn't ignorant of the music). Why ask the question in the first place? You wanted 10 people to just say "Yeah! Spyro Gyra ROCKS!" ? Mike By the way, I have read many of your posts and am glad to have you as a member
  12. But she really does look like an old girlfriend! It was the summer of 1998....
  13. Wow!! Who's the babe?? She looks like an old girlfriend of mine..
  14. Good for you Weizy! Hang in there bro..
  15. Happy Birthday Joe... Ya wanna do some mountain biking on your birthday? We could be riding by 11am if ya want...
  16. It would disappear if people would stop posting to it. whoops....
  17. I am about 70 miles from Battle Creek where Bill lives. Every once in a great while he'll call me for a gig or I'll occasionally run into him somewhere.. He's a great guy!
  18. This topic is still here??
  19. He's definately a different kind of drummer.. I've seen Paul M play twice now.. Once with Dewey Redman and another time with Joachim Kuhn & John Abercrombie in Tubingen, Germany. Though not technically a chops monster, Motian plays with an interesting and profound sense of rhythm, time, phrasing, dynamics, colors, and composition. The strangest I've ever heard Paul Motian play was a video I saw of a festival hit he played with Gonzalo Rubacalba.. They played right at the edge of lunacy!
  20. Too early for me I have heard some recordings of hers with a really sweet B3..
  21. Maybe Doug Decker if Bill is still playing drums.. I know he works playing keyboards..
  22. That's funny! I especially liked Carsenio Hall
  23. Yeah,, what about Michigan?? The weather is fairly mild, and you could come out and hear Organissimo!
