Randy, what brand of sticks is it you're using here? I use Vic Firth's "Peter Erskine Ride Sticks" .. The sticks feel good and have great cymbal definition.. -

''35 IMPORTANT RULES FOR BANDS'' 1. Never start a trio with a married couple. 2. Your manager's not helping you. 3. Before you sign a record deal, look up the word "recoupable" in the dictionary. 4. No one cares who you've opened for. 5. A string section does not make your songs sound any more "important." 6. If your band has gone through more than four bass players, it's time to break up. 7. When you talk on stage, you're never as funny as you think. 8. If you sound like another band, don't act like you're unfamiliar with their music ("Oh, does 'Rage Against The Machine' also do rap-rock with political lyrics?") 9. Asking a crowd how they're doing is just amplified small talk. (Stop it!) 10. Don't say your video's being played if it's only on the Austin Music Network. 11. When you sign to a major label, claim to have inked the best contract ever. Mention "artistic freedom" and a "guaranteed three record deal." 12. When you get dropped, insist that it was the worst contract ever, and you asked to be let go. 13. Never name a song after your band. 14. Never name your band after a song. 15. When a drummer brings in his own songs, and asks to perform one of them, begin looking for a new drummer immediately. 16. Never enter a 'Battle of the Bands' contest. 17. Learn to recognize scary word pairings such as "rock opera," ''cover band,'' "white rapper," "blues jam," "open mike," and ''free gig''...... etc. 18. Drummers can take off their shirts 'or' they can wear gloves, but not both. 19. Break it to your parents: it's rock 'n' roll, not a soccer game. They've gotta stop coming to your shows. 20. It's not a "showcase." It's a gig that doesn't pay. 21. Getting a tattoo is like sewing platform shoes to your feet. 22. Don't hire a publicist. 23. Playing in Akron, Ohio (maybe at 'Red's') doesn't mean you're on tour. 24. Don't join a cover band that plays Bush songs. In fact, don't join 'any' cover band. 25. Although they come in different styles and colors, electric guitars all sound the same. It's not necessary to keep changing them between songs. 26. Don't stop your set to ask that beers be brought up. That's what girlfriends and boyfriends are for. 27. If you use a smoke machine, your music sucks. 28. We can tell the difference between a professionally produced album cover and one you made with the iMac your Mom got you for Christmas. 29. Remember: if blues solos are so difficult, why can so many 16 year olds play them? 30. If you do take a publicity photo, destroy it. You never know where or when it may turn up. 31. Cut your hair, but don't shave your head. 32. Pierce your nose, but not your eyebrow. (vise versa) 33. Don't wear shorts onstage. Or a suit. Or a hat. 34. Rock oxymorons: "major label interest," "demo deal," "blues genius," "$500 guarantee," and "Fastball's second hit." 35. Three things that are never coming back: ( beside 'bosa nova' and disco) gongs, headbands, and playing slide guitar with a beer bottle.

I finally got a CD & charts in the mail today.. Corey plays real nice! Nice arrangements and the piano player and bass player sound real good.. He's got Danny Gottlieb on drums who has always been a favorite.. Yeah,, I think I'm going to enjoy the hit!

I am doing a concert with Corey Christiansen at Interlochen Fine Arts Academy, near Traverse City, Mich on April 6th.. Anyone familiar with Corey Christiansen? If so, what can you tell me about him?
-
Well, he pissed in my cornflakes too, so to speak, when he first came here. I had a pretty pointed exchange with him in some thread--I certainly understand the basis for his "annoying" rep. If I thought that was all there was to him I wouldn't have been as bothered as I was by the later attacks on him. Nobody has a right to be liked, or even to necessarily be treated in a friendly manner. I was just surprised and stung by the ugliness that came out in responses to him. Personally, I never had any problems with che, or even found che that offensive really.. I even went back and read some of his posts in his profile. Maybe I didn't go deep enough into his posts... Nobody yet even comes close to Wingy's caustic ramblings..

Have you tried googling Detroit Jazz festival? Maybe you could get the lineup for last year..

Who are these at the Detroit Jazz Festival?
randissimo replied to jazzmessenger's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
The drummer is George Davidson. In the early 70's he recordrd and toured with Paul Butterfield. The tenor player could be Donald Waldon though I'm not positive.. Duhhhh.... The mystery tenor player is at least 20 yrs younger than Waldon Tad would know who he is... My Detroit friend R J Spangler's quess is the tenor player is Vincent Bowen... -

Ya gotta love Joe I remember back in the late 70's, going to the Jazz Showcase when it was at 901 Rush street, to hear Philly Joe Jones. During one of the sets, Al Green was up at the waitress station trying to hit on one of the waitresses.. Joe sees this distraction, walks over to Al Green and says, "Look man, I don't really care who you are, either you get a seat and dig the music or leave! " In the late 70's the Jazz Showcase was my school and church of jazz. I heard many great jazz artists there and many times left there blown away by the music! I owe much of my deep love and inspiration for the music to guys lile Joe & the Jazz Showcase! Another man of note. From the late 40's- early 50's, Clarence Baker in Detoit also showcased the great legends and innovators of jazz for many decades. I caught many great sets there too. Though Clarence has passed away, Baker's Keyboard Lounge still lives on, though no longer at the talent level of The Jazz Showcase & Village Vanguard. Most of the acts booked there these days are local and regional. Like Norman Granz, Clarence Baker, Rusty Monroe (now defunct Rusty's-Toledo) & the late Max Gordon (Village Vanguard-NYC), Joe historically, is and continues to be an important part of jazz music and it's history and evolution. I am so glad Joe is still around.. He's a tough old bird.

Last week was too frantic for me... I missed out on the show.... Will it air again? If not, do you have a cd of the show?

I plan to drive up to Blue Lake after drum lessons if the weather doesn't freak out Tuesday... There's a possible winter storm watch for that day...
