  4. that's very good, guys, you sure have a firm grasp of the obvious and a knack for the irrelevant. Two necessary qualities for the witless -
  5. or maybe I'll be Art Pepper and go to jail - or Dexter Gordon doing time - or Frank Morgan in stir - or Tad Dameron in Lexington - or Stan Getz in the back of that police cruiser after holding up that drug store - or Al Haig, accused of killing his wife, in a lonely prison cell - anyone picking up a theme here?

  12. well, the project has expanded - will be 24 CDs when completed (I hope to have the mastering done by summer, notes by the Fall?) I have now realized that Kinsey was wasting his time interviewing mr and ms USA - he should have just listened to early recordings - like the one I just heard, by Grant and Wilson, extolling the virtues of simultaneous orgasm (1930), or Belulah Bryant's "he's got a lot on the ball - but he ain't too much for me" or the African American midget/female impersonator Frankie Jaxon breathing heavily and screaming for more on "my daddy rocks me" (1929) -
  13. love the stuff with Marty Krystal, one of the true unsung greats of the saxophone -

  18. well, a freak who favored the supression and oppression of other freaks - nothing to celebrate, IMHO - Hitler was a freak, too; had strange sexual habits and strong dislikes -
  19. they were, in the electrical recording era - from what I have been told by people like Doug Pomeroy, condensers were common in the electrical era because they picked up so much. But I am not really sure - Chris, you out there?
  20. "had a lot of fun times there in the back room" sorry I missed all that -

  23. hey I just picked up a Son House reissue - notes by - whatshisname -
  24. wish I had a time machine to go back, but the article I remember was, I think, from New Times, and showed Harvey's machinations to avoid getting sent into actual combat. Not a surprise, as right wingers routinely advocate sending people into harms way in wars that they, themselves, refuse to fight - as in Bush Jr and Cheney, to name only two - and Berigan and Weizen, what's keeping you guys from joining up? (what did YOU do in the war, daddy-o?)
  25. it was very frustrating to be a jazz musician in NYC during Gary's reign - I remember when I played the Knitting Factory with Hemphill, and, wonder of wonders, Giddins gave us as a "Voice Pick of the week" - it was nice, and we sold out the place - we even drew the late Irving Stone, and, as John Szwed told me, "if he's there, it's a HIP event." (not the Agony and the Ecstacy writer, btw; this Stone was a guy who was known as a major fan of various downtown jazz venues, and for whom Zorn's club The Stone is named)
