  1. "Library of Congress has either originals (or copies of originals) for the 13 shows that aired on the PBS network" sadly, this means we'll never see them again, as the LC guys won't let anything out without legal forms signed in triplicate, a note from your grandma, and a sworn statement from the Pope that the signee means well and has no untreated rashes -
  2. all clean - plenty of thse arriving so there's enough to go around around - still $125 complete, mint condition -
  3. actually no, they just loaned it to Elliot Spitzer -
  4. but still, you haven't seen anything until you've watched Mitch Miller do the Dance of the Virgin with three goats and a chicken -
  5. Bob was from California, but I can't recall if it was Eureka - will ask him - yes, Bob was an amazing pianist, though one had to see him outside of Mingus to get the full range - an absolute harmonic genius with an encyclopedic knowledge of tunes, a great sense of humor, terrific left hand - I miss hearing him play solo, especially -
  6. well, as long as Montavani kept his pants on -
  7. there's some silverware missing from the main dais -
  8. this is one of those threads that I'm too tired to read all the way through and I just pop in occassionally and I can't figure out what the hell we're talking about - something about Clifford Thornton and Larry Kart ruining jazz in Chicago - well, if they're willing to admit guilt, that's the first step - and let's not forget Nessa's responsibility in all this - personally, I'll take the blame for Connecticut and Maine - where's Al Capone when we need him?
  9. "just went to school there is all." ah ha - you admit it -
  10. still plenty of room available - send me cash, I'll get you on the list -
  11. I've got a few more coming in next week, from an email I just got - so I can definitely offer up at least two more -
  12. sorry so slow - Bob, as I mentioned, has dealt with some serious health problems - I tried to get him on my CD, but we couldn't work out the logistics - HOWEVER -- this is a good reminder that I should give him a call - will phone this week and report back; unfortunately I did get a sense that it's unlikely Bob will return to public performance -
  13. I met her once - Jean Roth, Joe Albany's girlfriend, took me to the Blue Note in NYC to hear her and introduce me - between sets we go back stage - Jean knocks on her door: "Hey Anita, it's Jean - " no answer, so Jean pushes the door open a little bit - inside we see O'day on all fours, apparent throwing up into something - she turns around, looks at us, pushes her leg out and slams the door shut in our faces. Jean looks at me and says, "That was Anita O'Day."
  14. actually they are buried in the same box - it's a special discount thing - and I'm next - it's quite an honor -
  15. I mean, here's the thing - I consider myself to be a musician with certain technical problems- but I ALWAYS know when I'm lost or I've screwed up -
  16. well, I may be wrong, but Braxton's weirdness with standards always seems to me part of his grand design, whether the listener likes it or not - but I'm always troubled by a musician who has certain fundamental problems - like: 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 (and than repeat prior)
  17. well, at least he wasn't selfish -
  18. c'mon now, it's been clear since about 1980 that Sonny does not listen to anything going on around him - or he'd have had a nervous breakdown years ago - come back lubbee and help me out here - I'm s i n k i n g
  19. "how did this thread turn into an "Allen Lowe" thread? No disrespect, but you've turned a discussion about Lou Donaldson's Hot Dog, an album and artist you don't dig,... into an ongoing conversation with yourself about yourself." it's my favorite subject - also, helps me forget about Hot Dog which I listened to once and which has led to a recurring nightmare: I'm being chased by several white nuns with Afros carrying copies of Ann Coulter's latest book and an autographed copy of the album Hot Dog, and they are screaming: "one of Gould's", "one of Gould's" over and over - and than one of the nun's pulls out a Star of David and says: "Now I am married to Berigan. Now I am married to Berigan." I have no idea what this dream means, but I wish it would stop as I'm tired of wetting my bed in fear -
  20. hey, who's this lubbee guy? good post; he speaks the TRUTH - except for that Phil Woods stuff -
  21. funny, but I agree with Crow and Larry, yet have heard some of Scott's playing that went beyond that and that showed, when he wanted to, he could be quite a player -
  22. scott was an interesting guy - even in some early 1950s work, he sounds like he's trying to wriggle outside of the harmony - one of the earliest "outside" players -
  23. Papa Charlie Jackson caused me to buy a six-string banjo -
  24. well, sometimes it is true that if you don't do a lot of something you may have trouble doing it when you have to - I find that, for example, if I don't play alot of chord change gigs, I get on one, and it takes me a little while to think in that particular way - however, this was a real weird experience; maybe not characteristic; on the other hand, it just may be a problem that remains un-resolved -
  25. not Baron - whom I've heard play straight time more than once - please, let's correct this - I will give two hints: 1) it's not Margaux and 2)it's not Ernest
