  1. so he whacked you for $202.00? unbelievable. i'm sorry, but i just can't spend that much without the safety net of a guarantee or escrow. i think it's pretty low for someone to do that to a jazz lover... -e-
  2. i couldn't agree more! for those who haven't clicked, 'nycsoulman' has a beat up copy of 1530 (jutta hipp w/ zoot sims), replete with bent up/torn/box-taped edges, for an opening bid requirement of $2499.99. in fact, all his current offerings seem to be a little rough around the edges... wow, i just realized he grades this 1530 as "vg+". even if the vinyl itself is super-clean (which is doubtful under the conditions of its jacket) can you believe that? -e-
  3. ...still waiting for my creme de la creme comps! , -e-
  4. file that under 'only in new york'... i once found some herbie hancock blue notes in a trash chute room in a building on the lower east side myself. -e-
  5. that's because it's a tower records japan exclusive. dustygroove is carrying it in the u.s. and towerrecords.co.jp is where you'll want to look for en japon. regards, -e-
  6. i LOVE trane's new avatar... (i actually own that record) , -e-
  7. happy birthday, indeed... , -e-
  8. i second that! i also wonder if there's going to be renewed interest in it now... -e-
  9. you bet, ss1. they should be landing this week... -e-
  10. i've completely picked up on the different vibe this season from episode uno, but remember that the season, as it were (more like a quarter season), is less than six shows elapsed. the writing, thus far, has obviously tended to focus on the more serious. i've been thinking to myself that maybe once they resolve a direction with the unresolved tension surrounding the pregnancy of j.d. and his girlfriend that maybe we'll feel some of that heaviness lift and we'll be in what we've come to think of as a more scrubs kinda place. until then, mortality seems to hang relatively heavy... -e-
  11. fantastic tableau! i'd be curious to know what some of your current favs are... -e-
  12. no kidding! i've been waiting for that one *forever* myself... -e-
  13. essentially someone slipped a mickey, a poison, into his drink. as i recall, he wasn't the only victim, but i believe he may have been the sole fatality. in the documentary his widow speculates on it being mob related. -e-
  14. to follow up on things, my copy arrived yesterday and i couldn't be happier. it's great to have this priceless material all in one impossibe-to-carry-through-airport-security package (or is it the also-manufactured-at-the-sardine-tin-factory package?). i've only listened to the first two (of six) discs, but the mastering is pretty nice. thanks for the thread, -e-
  15. i just found this thread, and count me as a fellow mcfarland fan. have you seen the documentary "this is gary mcfarland"? here's a link to the film's site. additionally, "scorpio and other signs" (on verve) was recently issued in japan following issues of "butterscotch rum" and "today" (which are both late period recordings). i'll say that i've not heard "slaves". from what i understand it's sort of suite-like, similar to "america the beautiful...". anyone? -e-
  16. so is dmitry gonna post any pics of this record or what? it's been three days since he said he'd "be back in 10". ah, maybe he meant 10 days... -e-
  17. ...which begs the question: what about mid-century modern minimalism? -e-
  18. how bizarre. i had the *very*same thing. the joint pains were bone deep and unrelenting... -e-
  19. of course we do, dmitry - they're as rare as hens teeth! i love this record, and film for that matter. good on ya, -e-
  20. the real gem in this thread (yes, criterions are pricey - yes, they are worth it) is finding stefan's blog... *excellent* work, sir. check it out! -e-
  21. looks like no, or little, duplication from 'what it is', so i just bought both volumes. will let ya know as soon as... -e-
  22. my money's on "the andromeda strain" score, housed in a silver fold out hexogonal sleeve... -e-
  23. aha! that explains everything... seriously though, why is it jazz calendars are all so poorly designed? even the glorious swing journal calendar isn't easy to read (but the photos are unsurpassed). wouldn't it be great if companies reproduced a calendar like that brown + bigelow piece for '07? -e-
  24. what? isn't there next week...? , -e-
