  1. Isn't 6 afraid of 7 'cause 7 8 9?
  2. Can you link to the video? I could, but I don't think you're old enough to see it.
  3. Boy George Boy Wonder Boy (as in )
  4. Holy Shit! EXPLODING BREASTS!
  5. I saw her last year on the same bill with another legend, Dave Brubeck. She had to be helped to and from the piano, but her playing was marvelous. Not surprisingly, she also tells some terrific stories.
  6. Did you know she still lives here? I've suspected that for a while, but just confirmed it on her web site. I plan to see her this summer during the first week of the Philadelphia Orchestra's summer season at the Mann Center. I guess as sort of a celebration of this being the Mann's 30th anniversary, they have quite a line-up of soloists for 3 nights in a row that first week: Itzhak Perlman the first night, Emanuel Axe the second night, and then Hilary the third. And then the next week, Yo-Yo Ma!
  7. Can't believe it took this long for J.J. to move out of "Running Low".
  8. If you do, can I piggyback something on it and pay for shipping from Corpus to Philly?
  9. And the "Contemporary Records Story" for 15.
  10. He is a cute little guy, Peter! Here's our Zoe at almost the same age--10 weeks (she's now almost 10 months!):
  11. I ordered it too. I'm not finding it under Miles Davis. Could it already be sold out? Here.
  12. Next time I visit my parents, I'll have to pull out the ol' World Pacific LP and see how much damage I did almost 40 years ago. Of course, I now have the CD, which adds 3 bonus tracks.
  13. On this one, I'd recommend that instead of the above older GNP Crescendo release, you get the relatively recent Fresh Sound release of the same concerts: The Fresh Sound release is more complete (it includes passages that were edited out of the GNP release), is MUCH better documented, and has better sound. I had both and, after A/B'ing them, gave the GNP disc away. Here's the AMG review of the Fresh Sound CD.
  14. Me too! My Dad picked up the original LP when it first came out in '68 (and still has it, too ) and I used to come home from school and play it over and over and over. I thought Buddy was so cool in that Nehru jacket.
  15. Just a little OT, Peter, but have you read "Marley & Me" yet? In case you're not familiar with it, it's the current NY Times #1 bestseller by Philadelphia Inquirer columnist John Grogan, about his family's life with a male yellow lab. It was recently sold to Hollywood (apparently there had been a bidding war among 3 studios). My wife read and loved it, my daughter's currently reading it, and I'm next up. We currently have a 9-month-old female yellow lab, and had another female who died 3 years ago at almost 14 years of age. As you probably know, they're wonderful dogs, and always seem to have a way of outgrowing these puppy "issues", if you can persevere through them. Congratulations, and enjoy him (which I know you will).
  16. Which is why we've all come to depend on you, Erik, to keep us apprised of what's new.
  17. Singles pages are now up, with sound samples, covers, descriptions, and discographies.
  18. Are they dead? Oh wait, you said they live there.
  19. I don't think you-know-who would touch it, Chris, since he's more of a Dale Evans fan.
  20. When this auction ends, can you lend me some cash?
  21. Hate to agree Sounds like the new Concord site.
  22. I caught Pat Martino's first set at Zanzibar Blue in Philly this past Friday night--phenomenal! He's promoting his upcoming CD on Blue Note, "Remember: A Tribute To Wes Montgomery," and dedicated the show to Wes. He played several of Wes' tunes from the CD, including "Four on Six," "Grooveyard," and "Full House." He also played a couple of other tunes, including one of his own that's dedicated to Brother Jack McDuff (with whom he played), "Mac Tough". His rhythm section was also great, and I believe is the same one on the new CD. The pianist's playing reminded me of Harold Mabern's, and the group really captured the feel of Wes' mid-60's quartet. But don't take my word for it: 3 full tracks from the new CD can be heard here. Pat (and I assume the same quartet) will be appearing in Indy, LA, NYC, DC, and other locations over the next 3-4 months (full schedule here), and I highly recommend that you see him if you can, especially if you're any kind of Pat and/or Wes fan. Incidentally, I met Pat after the show (he came out and mingled with the crowd), and he seems to be a very friendly and gracious guy.
  23. You know, you can put together almost all of the tracks from the Desmond Mosaic with 5 CDs that are currently available: First Place Again (reissued on Gambit) Take Ten (RCA) Bossa Antigua (RCA) Glad To Be Unhappy (RCA) Easy Living (RCA) So quit your whining already!
