  1. looing? Like this cat you mean? OK, smartass, I've edited it.
  2. For those who've been looking for them, the Eldridge, Farlow, and Jazztet Mosaics are back in stock (for the moment).
  3. He sits sorta sidesaddle when he plays--fun to watch.
  4. ...and Harold's still around, isn't he? His name came up in a conversation I had with a friend & fellow jazz-lover a few weeks ago, in conjunction with some other 1960s record that he was on. Very much so. Along with felser and alankin, I saw him play with Eric Alexander here in Philly several months ago. Got to talk with him after the show, and he drew a picture for my 11-year-old daughter when she asked him for an autograph. His more recent recordings as leader on Venus, DIW, and Sackville are also highly recommended.
  5. I was going to wait for the briefest history to come out, but figured this will have to do in the meantime.
  6. Well the reason why I did not include that one is that the Inn is undergoing a $9 million renovation right now do to mold. Yuck. Somebody hasn't been reading the DP http://www.dailypennsylvanian.com/vnews/di...8f?in_archive=1 Oooops. In that case, I withdraw my recommendation. On the other hand, you might be able to get a really terrific rate on a room there.
  7. Don't forget--Lon's an expert in state facilities.
  8. A related question popped into my mind, which is which one of these venues was heaven and which was hell? Looking at the order in which the album covers are presented, it's not entirely clear.
  9. I never look at the "Name Three Blindfolded Funny Rats of the Week" thread. You guys probably don't know about that one because you never look at it.
  10. You'll have to be patient for this! Might take time! If you're impatient, you can have a look at the latest issue of WaxPoetics which includes a little presentation of some of the photos! Thanks, Guy! And for others who may be interested, more info about Guy's WaxPoetics feature ("The New Music").
  11. They work for me now, too (didn't work yesterday). Pretty amazing stuff for a couple of high schoolers--or for anyone, for that matter. Definitely worth a listen.
  12. Any thread where Kalo gets into a post riff.
  13. I think I grabbed the Eldridge number off of one of the earlier posts, but they appear to have changed their numbers. The current number for that set is 502089 (although the old numbers still work on the Order page). Some people may have originally gotten the catalog numbers out of the latest Zweitausendeins catalog, which you can download as a PDF online, and which they enclose with each order they ship. I don't speak German, either, and used a combination of the Google tool bar translation function (to translate whole pages) and the AltaVista Babel Fish translation page (to translate sections of text), and that worked pretty well for me. By now, I've learned my way around the web site (and a few key German phrases) well enough to pretty much find what I need (I've succeeded in placing 2 orders with them!). Feel free to PM me, Brad, if you need assistance (we could even do it over the phone, if you want). By the way, the last time I checked, the Art Pepper Galaxy box was back in stock. If you don't have it, I'd highly recommend getting it, especially at their rock-bottom price. It's the full-size 12x12 box and booklet, with discs manufactured in Germany but with the US Fantasy mastering (as are the other Fantasy box sets they currently sell). The Mosaics they sell, on the other hand, are completely manufactured in the US (including discs), and only lack the Mosaic name and set number on the box edge and the individual hand-written set number inside the front cover of the booklet. In all other ways, the Mosaics distributed by Universal are identical to the ones sold directly by Mosaic.
  14. If you want something nearby that's a bit more upscale, there's also The Inn at Penn. Not sure how their rates compare to the Sheraton, but it may be worth checking out. If you want to stay in Center City, Society Hill, or Old City, there's obviously a lot more.
  15. But did you know that before you looked on AMG?
  16. On my last order, they also made a mistake. Instead of "The Modern Red Norvo," they sent a CD called "Im Hamburger Federbett" by some guy named Wolf Biermann. Of course, they said they'd send the Norvo set and told me to keep the Biermann CD. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, and have no idea what it is. By the way, Erik, I also was informed that my replacement Red Norvo set has been delayed because of the warehouse move. And in terms of shipping notifications, they usually send a prospective one a couple of days before they actually ship, confirming which items they have in stock and on what date they're expected to ship.
  17. I plead Not Guilty! I was there as a plain Montgomery (and Griffin!) fan. I had not started taking photos at concerts yet. I started at the top in June 1965 when Louis Armstrong and his All Stars gave a concert at the Paris Palais des Sports and remained at the top the following month when the John Coltrane quartet played that Salle Pleyel concert! Guy, you're right--my mistake. It's recordings of the Armstrong and Coltrane '65 Paris concerts on which the "assertive" photographer can be heard. Seriously, though, is there any chance you could post some of your favorite photos here sometime--maybe start a thread for that? I'm sure everyone would love to see them.
  18. Football as played in Europe is older than your so-called "football", so your use of " is misplaced in my opinion. Especially since in our "football", the ball is touched mostly with hands.
  19. Guy, perhaps to some extent it's like comparing apples and oranges, each wonderful in its own way. "Full House" certainly has an intimacy and informality lacking in the Paris concert, but the Paris concert features Wes' regular quartet at the time, and gives him more of an opportunity to stretch out. (However, the Paris concert is somewhat marred by the voice of that pushy professional photographer who keeps yelling at Wes to look his way for a picture.) By the way, do you have any photos from that concert you could post? They're both great and, especially given the limited number of live Wes recordings available, I wouldn't be without either of them.
  20. Tom, These tracks appear to be from several radio broadcasts in Fall 1965: Wes Montgomery Discography
  21. Chris, it's fantastic, but don't take my word for it (not that anyone ever does )--AMG review and sound samples. It's every bit as good as--if not better than--"Full House" (Tsubo).
  22. And Mr. Russell naturally assumed that I was the one who was confused. By the way, let me also say welcome! Ron, sorry! No problem. But don't let it happen again.
  23. But can he really PLAY that Bad Boy??? There's nothin' worse than hearin' some teeth-smackin' during a Jaw Harp solo.
  24. And Mr. Russell naturally assumed that I was the one who was confused. By the way, let me also say welcome!
  25. HIYO!!! You are CORRECT, sir! (I know Chuck wasn't about to give you a straight answer. )
