  1. I don't think you-know-who would touch it, Chris, since he's more of a Dale Evans fan.
  2. When this auction ends, can you lend me some cash?
  3. Hate to agree Sounds like the new Concord site.
  4. I caught Pat Martino's first set at Zanzibar Blue in Philly this past Friday night--phenomenal! He's promoting his upcoming CD on Blue Note, "Remember: A Tribute To Wes Montgomery," and dedicated the show to Wes. He played several of Wes' tunes from the CD, including "Four on Six," "Grooveyard," and "Full House." He also played a couple of other tunes, including one of his own that's dedicated to Brother Jack McDuff (with whom he played), "Mac Tough". His rhythm section was also great, and I believe is the same one on the new CD. The pianist's playing reminded me of Harold Mabern's, and the group really captured the feel of Wes' mid-60's quartet. But don't take my word for it: 3 full tracks from the new CD can be heard here. Pat (and I assume the same quartet) will be appearing in Indy, LA, NYC, DC, and other locations over the next 3-4 months (full schedule here), and I highly recommend that you see him if you can, especially if you're any kind of Pat and/or Wes fan. Incidentally, I met Pat after the show (he came out and mingled with the crowd), and he seems to be a very friendly and gracious guy.
  5. You know, you can put together almost all of the tracks from the Desmond Mosaic with 5 CDs that are currently available: First Place Again (reissued on Gambit) Take Ten (RCA) Bossa Antigua (RCA) Glad To Be Unhappy (RCA) Easy Living (RCA) So quit your whining already!
  6. Always great to learn of a high quality more modest option out there in these type of threads, thanks! And Malcom Addey on the credits too eh? I'll put it on my hunting list. If you can afford it, I'd recommend that instead you spring for the 3-CD box set that includes this disc, plus 2 discs of the trio sides with Nat's vocals from the same period (which are actually the more famous, e.g., "Sweet Lorraine", "Route 66", etc.), for a total of 62 tracks: Here's the complete track listing. And Tranemonk, this set plus the new Capitol transcriptions set (which also is on my wish list) should get you a lot--although certainly not all and maybe not even most--of the meat of the Mosaic set (6 CDs vs. 18 CDs).
  7. Is there a place to sign up for these emails? I couldn't find anything on the confusing Concord site.
  8. You never listened to 2 of the discs?
  9. Just a minute there, Erik. Did you pay the appropriate royalties for the the use of that animated .gif?
  10. You're not a big RVG Edition fan?
  11. How can this be? The Brownie set was released in 1995 (?) and the RVGs in 2001. Haven't you ever heard of time warps??? What, they don't have those in peat bogs?
  12. Allen, this is a VERY inside joke.
  13. That "now-deceased" struck me as odd, also, when referring to someone who died 45 years ago. But on further reflection, I think she meant it as now as opposed to then, when they performed at the Vanguard. Of course, it goes without saying that LaFaro wasn't deceased at the time Motian performed with him, so her phrasing was a bit awkward. What she probably should have said was "soon-to-be-deceased". BTW, on the subject of her appearance: she and the show are based here in Philly, and in a recent local interview she said that people sometimes assume that she's a lesbian because of her extremely short hair. She seems to find that somewhat amusing because, in fact, she's not (and is married, I believe).
  14. Yourmusic.com has this set for just under $24, in case anyone wants to pick it up before it goes OOP.
  15. Actually, that doesn't even show up under jazz new arrivals. But here's a couple of new-arrival bones that I thought for sure you'd pick up:
  16. New today: Billie Holiday, "The Complete Verve Studio Master Takes" (6 discs)
  17. Question is, did it look like that Evans CD had been played?
  18. The Wynton Kelly Trio and Aerosmith made a recording together?
  19. The Diz set has now moved from "Future Projects" to "Scheduled Releases"--June 2006.
  20. All I know is that when I first saw the title of this thread, and that Jim A had started it, I was sure that it was about me.
  21. That's why I said "swillin'". But now we're derailing FFA's birthday thread. WTF, whenever we can rag on Conn, it's worth it, and I'm sure FFA will approve.
  22. Watch it, pal! I thought we settled this the other night--nothin' wrong with sexy older women. Happy Birthday, Paul! And I mean the cool, 'bone-playin' Paul from swingin' KC--not that dorky, beer-swillin', allegedly weight-liftin' Paul from frickin' Toledo.
  23. Thanks for posting that, Jim. I'm hoping to see him in Philly next weekend at Zanzibar Blue. And that new CD is a definite must-buy.
  24. I emailed customer service at the 'service@zweitausendeins.de' address a couple of days ago to inquire about my order, and haven't received a response. Is there another address I should be using, or is that the correct one? That's the right address. I sent them an email yesterday afternoon, and received a response this morning. You may want to send another email--they're usually very responsive.
