  4. Actually, polka is very big in New Jersey (and it has it's own distinctive style - much like the "push" style that's popular in Chicago). Go to Elizabeth, NJ. Radio shows, festivals, etc... and the one-and-only Jimmy Sturr are incredibly popular there. Sturr's home is in nearby Florida, NY. and his radio show is broadcast on a half dozen stations in NJ as well as other states.

  8. If your talking about what I think your talkin 'bout... They're full length tunes that emphasize rhythm for DJs doing their own mixes. They started coming out in the mid 80's and there were a couple dozen or so released. The tunes cover a pretty long period - late 60's to the mid 80's. Funk, Latin and some unexpected pop sources (The Monkees, for example). I think it died soon after because of the introduction of House at that time and the introduction of the Seismic Sound series and others.
