WARHOL ON PBS Andy Warhol is getting the Ken Burns treatment in a forthcoming two-part, four-hour biopic airing this September on PBS. In addition to extensive material from the Andy Warhol Museum archives, the documentary features Jeff Koons as the voice of Warhol, and is narrated by Laurie Anderson. It includes interviews with art critic Dave Hickey and author Stephen Koch. ArtNet

Jim's right. It's pretty easy. My tapes used to come out with some of it outside the crossbars on the shell and so I usually had to break open the shell and transplant it all to a new shell. If you bring it over I may be able to transfer it to CDR for you. Rod

I could probably do it, but I need to see the way that the cassette tape has come out. Used to spend many hours doing this in the "old" days. I'm out near White Rock. Rod

Yup, it and it's million (billion?) of inhabitants should keep me "on my toes" so to speak! R~~

I've made quite good, but slow, progress in the past few months. I've had to do the short cheap airplane trip to check ear results before going on the long expensive overseas ones and things like that to be on the safe side. You mentioned earphone tests - actually, that's a good thing! Instead of using test tones of varying frequencies which would be quite unnatural, I made an 80 minute piece of music that resembles Eno's Thursday Afternoon and has a long fade-in - something like a half an hour. Using identical settings each time and with the same headphones in the same location, etc., I would test myself a couple times a week to listen for the first time I could hear sound in the fade-in. So, at first, it could be 20 minutes in...then some weeks later it'd be 15 minutes in, and so on... Anyway, progress is being made. I think that I have 80% back in my left and 60% in right. I'll be doing a followup appointment soon. like I said, let us know your progress... Rod

I'm not a doctor, so these are just observation/questions... I would think that you would have adenoid problems if you were having breathing problems or some form of sleep apnea. Are you tired every morning from possibly not getting enough sleep? One thing that I've learned this year about your ears, nose and throat is that there's a definite reason that there are such people as ENT doctors: GO TO ONE and stop messing with "real" doctors (as you say). If you want to know what I've had to deal with this year, then go to here. keep us up-to-date! Rod

That's not my name Rod. But, I don't get apoplectic about it. If the worst thing that someone does is assign me a nickname, I'd consider myself Lady Luck's own tot. OK, just wondering. I know someone from my schooldays who used to go by "Debbie", but insists on being referred to as "Debra" now. Like Chewy, I've nothing to really add to this thread, except that it takes time, self-reflection and reassessment. Also, try to go and do something that you've always thought about doing, but have never taken the proper time to do. Sometimes that brings you back to zero and a new beginning. Hang in there Paul. What live music are you going to see tonight?

Outstanding Rod! Please report about all the above. I can't believe there were no responses to your posting. Hey Chuck (and others), Really great to get a chance to be there for this. The church was gorgeous and Markus used a guy who does these very slowly evolving light shows to provide extra atmosphere. At times, I thought that I was at the LaMonte Young Dream House with the occasional use of magenta lights. Markus sometimes does duets with other musicians (recent ones have been with Hariprasad Chaurasia, Stefano Scodanibbio, Arild Andersen, et al.), but this time it was just solo. He began on stage but for other pieces he performed in the middle of the church and eventually moved to the back of the stage and worked forward again. The pix will show you that he was doing multitrack horn playing thru a multispeaker surround setup. About 90 minutes and then an intermission to tell some loud children outside to pipe down and returning for another 30 minutes. All in all, a very wonderful, relaxing (without being new-agey) ECMish kind of sound that was a good winddown to a hectic couple of weeks. Sorry that the pix are so noisy. I'm still looking for that ideal camera for darkened spaces. Markus -

Going thru pictures, I noticed one where my Japanese friend was demonstrating something called The Algorithm March. Not to be attempted after a 0.5 Kölsch beer: Algorithm March

Yeah, he was doing a LOT of clowning around...almost too much sometimes. You wanted him to get on with the music instead of making faces at his sidemen while they were taking solos. Also, I remember him saying during the interview that his 60th b-day was coming up, so, yes it must've really been '88.

Pretty incredible circumstances tonight... At 5PM, I have another composition session with Karlheinz Stockhausen which will be followed by going to a concert in a Köln church with two of his daughters to see their brother, trumpeter Markus Stockhausen, play. If someone had told me 10 years ago that I'd be doing this, I wouldn't have believed them! -
Thanks Chuck. The copies went over well here overseas. Still have to hook up with a "receiver" in München next week, but I KNOW that he'll be pleased! best, Rod

be prepared for the "death in the family" excuse. it's what I got from him a few years ago. Sometimes there really is a death in the family. Yes, of course. It is possible that you could receive the same message and another family member has died. I did not call him on this. Still, this has been known to become a convenient excuse. Your call of course.
