  1. At Last FM, I got these for Savatage (you may know some of these bands?): (just doing my own, I got Dark Tranquility, Dio, Saxon, Accept, Bruce Dickinson, Avantasia, Blind Guardian, Evergrey, Pain of Salvation, and Steve Vai as the first 10 tunes).
  2. Don't know if these are "real" - I've been fooled a few times before... http://www.last.fm/user/ashtonkutcher/ http://www.last.fm/user/GeraldoRivera/
  3. Popsike lists three copies, one more expensive than the other... That's 10,000!
  4. He was incredible when he was here a couple of weeks ago. Afterwards, had dinner with this man who actually is pretty shy. Wouldn't know it from his performances. Lots of CDs (cheap!) should be available before and after the show, so bring lots of moolah! Also, he is taking some well-deserved time off during the entire year of 2006 and there are no performance plans yet for '07, so take advantage of his first time in Texas.
  5. I've only heard the one on Adelphi. Is that Mo Breau? Another one I have to dig out of the stacks to refresh my memory. I remember the days when some of our local stores carried Coda. Miss those days...
  6. The Bird and Dizzy tribute Lp got a lot of play around these parts - and on radio too. Have to do some searching around here for that one. On Flying Dutchman, I think?
  7. a visitor...
  8. Someone fluent in Arabic may disagree, but I've always said "taw-HEED" - which, I think is an actual alternate spelling. The word refers to "oneness" as in E Pluribus Tauhid
  9. Be strong and safe Jim. We'll all be thinking of your well-being.
  10. I agree. I got this before the last Organissimo and I'll say 3 and a half stars. They hired a porno star for the cover - apparently a well known one? Can't remember her name and I don't have the disc handy, but the name's on there.
  11. I have a printer close to the model that you have Jim (Epson R800) and boy have I been tempted to get the cheaper inks! One of my concerns is/was that it'll void the warranty if something goes wrong with clogging or some weird malfunction because of these cheapies, BUT lately, I've been wondering how long before something like that would happen and would it be so long from now that I would've been better off buying the cheaper stuff and giving the printer to the Salvation Army after something did go wrong. I'm beginning to consider this option nowadays. I've heard that the ink mixes are sometimes not as good (read: accurate), so a suggestion (that I may try soon) is to get a sample package and just see if you're happy with the quality. I remember a thread somewhere about printer ink...

  13. Chuckyd4(Chad), Jim Dye, and myself have been enjoying Last FM for the last 9 months to a year. A bit more involved (with a piece of software that knows what you've been listening to and creates a profile), but you have a little more say in the outcome. Not sure if Pandora has self-created forums, but Last FM has these...the only drawback is that there are so many of these individual groups - everything from "Blue Note Records" to "Ukrainian Village, Chicago" - that it becomes a bit slim (only one member for the later category). It's good for exploring music too, but, like life, you're sometimes at the mercy of others and their taste.
  14. Good that it worked from your monitor, but it "prefers" to be plugged directly into your Mac and not thru any externals (keyboards, hubs...) It, supposedly and usually, doesn't even show up as an imput when plugged into something other than the Mac itself. This was an early complaint when folks couldn't get it to work, but this is quite normal for hardware of this nature.
  15. Found a review the reviewer claims to make a comparison, but I don't really see this. I think he's just showing how it can work with newer technologies.
  16. Sorry, can't help you with the new iMic. It may be too new for reviews yet. Nothing yet in MacAddict or MacWorld. It doesn't look that much different (pretty white vs silver - flattenened bottom) than the first version, so I'm not sure what mechanical differences there are. After I got the original version, it worked just fine - a rather simple interface. A minor design weirdness had the switch on when you switched it away from the mic icon but other than that it was pretty straight-forward and the sound was accurately transferred (16-bit not 24 tho due to Apple's Audio manager). It'd be nicer if the cable were longer than about 18 inches too. It comes with Final Vinyl software if you have nothing else for transferring your vinyl. Oh, with the old version, you had to have a dedicated USB port - this may be the case with this newer model too. It also supports 48k sampling if that's important to you. The advantage this unit has over built-in jack recording is that all of the conversion goes on outside of the Mac and isn't affected by noise from electrical fields that reside inside the Mac. This is in past-tense because soon afterwards, I bought a MOTU unit for professional sound transfer. So all recording is now done directly into the soundcard. In short, I'd give the first version 4 stars for it's sound, ease of use and price. Rod
  17. Just be glad that it wasn't "The Star-Spangled Banner"
  18. Type in some text - not all words are in their database, but you'll be surprised by how some words are divided up in order to produce some slick promo-type vocals. Even the word "Organissimo" is sung in this "detourned" way. Fun! Sing!
  19. Same here on a Mac - it crashes at random only while at the O-Forum - just figured it was growing out of it's old shoes.
