  1. Yes, if you get all of the bits and bytes.
  2. My analogy wasn't really a direct analogy concerning time. I was trying to get someone to remember that taking shortcuts sometimes can produce inferior results. Even the description from the linked website states right away: "Ok, this guide covers how to simply copy a extract the audio from a video DVD to a audio CD. The resulting quality should be excellent, almost as good as the original DVD sound quality..." Yes, I understand that this is not solely because of time, but rather the nature of the extraction. Just a suggestion that simply extracting sound from a physical medium such as this while you're listening to it more often yields better results. If you're not archiving this, then it may not matter that much.
  3. Goldwave was one of those software goodies that I wanted to take with me when I switched from PCs. Great and easy to use! You're malcolm! Remember, if you're using your actual system audio, make sure that you turn off any extra audio sounds that you may use on your computer - alerts for emails, etc. It's good if you want nearly instant results, but you may lose a bit in quality. Just think of the days when you had a choice of dubbing cassettes realtime or doubletime.
  4. Well, I like this song. I never would've made the connection that our illustrious perceptive friend has made here - not because it's wrong, but, rather, because it is SO right on! I sometimes wish I could think this way about music, but instead of historical context, I just immerse myself in the sound of things. This is one heck of a SoulSexy piece of wax we got here!
  5. Wow! I do this a lot and it's not nearly as convoluted. Not sure if it's a PC vs Mac thing, but I just play the DVD and I hit one button on Wire Tap Pro or Audio Hijack or any sound editing software and it just sends the file wherever I want it (desktop, iTunes, et.al) when the DVD is finished playing. Burn it and it's done. 60 minute DVD done in about 65-70 minutes.
  6. If saying who you are was a criterion for posting, this board would have damn few members. ←
  7. Link link link No real reason to not believe this, it's just a shame that it's being reported overseas and not here in the US.
  8. I think this belongs in the Funny Rat thread.
  9. Animal friendly is more like it. ...and they were fed regularly around the house?
  10. Nope. Animals are not dumb - especially squirrels. Also, the reason that there's sometimes the squirrel story of them chewing around in attics is that the story often involves a house that was built on "squirrel's property" - a wooded lot that belonged to them before the house in question was built on it. Then, later when they want to build a nest, if there are few or in some cases NO trees, they find themselves getting into attics - especially in cold climes. If it gets into a house, it may become confused and anxious if it has a hard time finding it's way out. This is usually due to someone discovering the hole and plugging it up. The squirrel freaks out and begins chewing on insulation and the like. but, again, this usually happens only if these myriad scenarios are in place. Our incursion is the root cause of their anxiously running across streets in front of cars too.
  11. Yes, but I said in most cases. As you can see to my left, they also like to enjoy an occasional Guinness

    Link Wray

It seems that there are obituaries in Spanish: Spanish and in Danish: Danish but, apparently nothing yet that I can see in the English press.

    Link Wray

I noticed that Wikipedia shows that Link Wray passed away on Friday, but I've not seen anything in the media on this. Anyone with more info? Link link

    Funny Rat

Just got back from seeing Jaap Blonk tonight. He's very shy in person, but he definitely opens up W I D E when he's on stage! Great show! A friend of mine has started an organization that's started to finally bring some interesting programs to our area. Upcoming shows will include Ellen Fullman, Pauline Oliveros, Guy Klucevsek and Carl Stone. It should be an exciting music year here locally (for a change).
  15. Yes, this is quite a silly bit of story. Our yard has been designated a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation and not only do I feed the birds and squirrels, but I also feed those possums and raccoons that are, apparently, illegal to feed in the above story's location. Squirrels are very clever little devils, but, in most cases they'll ignore those inside hideway places if they have any bit of food outside that they can eat. I even have a little chair that squirrels come and sit in while they eat their corn. Cranes are nearby just down the street, but they've yet to come into the yard. Bless the little ol' lady - this is a simple pleasure in her old age.

    Roy Brooks

This is so sad... We were just talking about "The Free Slave" the other day on this board. One thing I noticed: there is no information on Roy at the Wikipedia site. It would sure be nice if someone with a command of the language and better than average writing skills would contribute a nice biography on him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...oks&action=edit

  18. Not knowing your tastes, I can't say whether you'll like it. The fact that you actually saw a copy is a big step forward. very limited and most unlikely that it'll be reprinted. Being in the UK, you may want to contact: Townsend Records Customer Service 30 Queen St Great Harwood Lancashire BB6 7QQ They had a copy a while back for £96. Don't know how far this is away from you, but you can call to see if they have it for cheaper than what you saw it. If you have something better than dial-up for your computer connection, then PM me.
