  1. Semi-finals: Tuesday, July 6: Netherlands v Uruguay Wednesday, July 7: Germany v Spain
  2. Yeah, it's another dreadful game... As I've said earlier, this World Cup has seen very few exciting or even good games so far. Ugh.
  3. They have such a rule in ice hockey. If the puck is going towards an open goal and a player stops it by throwing a club, it will count as a goal, even though the puck never actually entered the goal. Football should have a rule like that too in a case like this. It would have been a goal if Suarez hadn't stopped it with his hands and Uruguay would have been out. Now Suarez has become some sort of hero for taking Uruguay to the semifinal by stopping the ball with his hands. It is laughable to see the red card as a punishment in this case. "Almost behind the line" does not count, the whole ball has to be over the line. Stopping a ball in the penalty area by handling it like Suárez did will be punished by a red card and a penalty kick. Those are the rules in football/soccer, whether you like it or not. The fact that Ghana missed the penalty is not Uruguay's fault. These things happen. By the way, I'm not a Uruguay fan, on the contrary
  4. One of the leading Dutch newspapers reviewed Cohen's Ellington bio and Teachout's Armstrong bio. The Ellington bio was rated good, the Armstrong bio just OK. Any more opinions here on the Ellington?
  5. Germany increase their lead to 4-0!
  6. It's all over now, Germany lead 3-0.
  7. An entertaining first half, with Germany deservedly leading 1-0 against Argentina, they're the better team.
  8. They will be missed, but there are enough good players in the squad to replace them.
  9. Uruguay progress to the semi-final against the Netherlands, next Tuesday.
  10. Ghana missed a penalty in the dying seconds of extra time. On to a penalty kicks shoot-out now...
  11. Still Uruguay 1, Ghana 1, with less than 20 minutes of extra time left. There've been quite a lot of bad games in this tournament, but this must be one of the worst. Awful, and not entertaining at all in my view. Very bad passing, lots of loss of possession of the ball, etc. etc.
  12. Didn't watch the game, and just learned that the Netherlands beat Brazil 2-1. Didn't expect that to happen. Wow... As a Dutchman I hope you're wrong, but I'm afraid you're right I hope you don't mind, but I'm not sorry to say you were wrong as far as the Netherlands are concerned
  13. Some excellent sets there. Good luck!
  14. As a Dutchman I hope you're wrong, but I'm afraid you're right
  15. Vol.8 has just been released by BIS - in Europe, at least.
  16. As mentioned a few times earlier in this thread the set will cover the 1932-1939 Brunswick (and sublabels) recordings that are now owned by Sony, so don't get any Columbia/Sony CDs with that stuff. Since you're getting the set anyway, you could hold on to any CDs you already have with some of those recordings until you've got the set and then compare them.
  17. Full time: Brazil 3, Chile 0. Another game to forget quickly. Quarter final on Friday: Netherlands v. Brazil.
  18. Bad defending by Chile and Brazil score 3-0. Game over, with about 30 minutes left to play.
  19. Lots of bad passing and silly loss of possession of the ball. Both teams seem to have problems controlling the ball.
  20. Brazil take the lead via a magnificent header: Brazil 1, Chile 0 Wow, things are going fast now: Brazil 2, Chile 0
  21. Well, they got this far despite their lack of finishing, but Brazil might be too big a hurdle for them. Let's wait and see
  22. Netherlands 2, Slovakia 0, with a couple of minutes left. Not a memorable game, on the contrary. Slovakia got an undeserved penalty (it was a dive) and scored in the dying seconds. Full time: Netherlands 2, Slovakia 1
  23. A statement was issued by FIFA after the Germany v. England game that there will be no goal line technology and no instant replays. They're a bunch of guys living in the past century, who don't want any change at all... Very sad.
  24. México finally score, 3-1. --- Full time, no change. Another poor game... Quarter final: Argentina v. Germany next Saturday; a repeat of the 1986 (with West Germany) and 1990 World Cup finals.
  25. Another Argentinian goal, 3-0. The Mexicans can book their flight home.
