Lester Young/Basie Set Selling Well
J.A.W. replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Here's an earlier discussion about the Young/Basie Mosaic. -
This was posted on the Hoffman forum:

He is, and when I realized that Fischer's PJ recordings are still within the EU 50-year limit, I edited my post accordingly.
-
Good for him! I don't see how he'd win. His Pacific Jazz recordings are in the public domain in the EU. No they aren't, but the good news is that every day, fewer and fewer people truckle before the rent-seeking monopolists... (edited post) Clare Fischer's Pacific Jazz recordings were made in 1962 and 1963, so they're not yet in the public domain in the EU. However, I believe that in Andorra, which is not part of the EU and where quite a few labels such as Definitive, Gambit and Lone Hill Jazz are based, they are in the public domain.

I hated the sound on the Black Lion remasters I had. They sounded as if the higher frequencies had been scrubbed into oblivion... Horrible. I kept the earlier issues. Seconded. I'm glad I have the Japanese CD reissues of these dates, which were released under their original leaders' names and with the original titles.
-
That was originally a Rocky Boyd date, issued by the JazzTime label (later known as JazzLine), which was owned by Fred Norsworthy, Duke Pearson and Dave Bailey.
-
The upcoming vinyl reissue is supposed to be based on the Macero mix. Interesting, my Japanese Mastersound DSD edition is a year 2000 edition. As far as I know all CD versions after the 1998 Japanese Mastersound use the Wilder remix, with the exception of the 2009 (not 2010) Complete Columbia Albums Collection box.

Bird complete dial on Spotlite lp series?
J.A.W. replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Recommendations
Why don't you ask the owner of Spotlite, Tony Williams, which sources he used: Spotlite website, e-mail address: tonywilliams@spotlitejazz.co.uk -
Ahmad Jamal and Carter/Bradford Mosaics can be pre-ordered
J.A.W. replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Mosaic's Fred told me earlier today that their new shipping methods are under review and that some of them need to be changed. They will also use sturdier cardboard shipping boxes. -
See this thread.

Japan WMC5-129 (Please note: I am not looking for Milt Jackson's That's the Way It Is) PayPal is my only payment option. Please PM me if you're selling a copy or know where I can get one.

FS: Mosaic Selects - Shank/Cooper & Piano Trios
J.A.W. replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Not being a member of the Steve Hoffman forum, and apparently because of this, I'm not entitled to a Search function, would you be so kind as to post the forum link? Thanks. Hoffman forum CD grading: Mint (M): Looks like the wrapper just came off. No marks of any kind anywhere on the complete package. Mint minus (M-): Very near perfect playing surface and artwork. When held at an angle under extreme lighting you can see perhaps 1 or 2 very light scratches or pin dots. Excellent (Exc.):CDs in this condition look used, but like they were taken good care of. Only a few very light scuffs can be seen when the disc is held at an angle to the light. The booklet and inserts are present and have only a few very minor flaws such as a slight bend or light fingerprints Very Good plus (VG+): No more than 10 very light to light scratches between 1/8" and 2". Artwork has case dents or a crease. Plays perfectly. Very Good (VG) : CDs in this condition are more for listening to than collecting. The disc is heavily scratched but can be played through without skipping. The booklet and inserts are present but heavily worn, and may include heavy fingerprints, bent corners, smudges, creases, case dimple marks, and writing. Poor (P): Car CD or Cat toy -
The Japanese set SRCS 9118~9 has the original mix. I have the fatboy jewel case version of that one.

Any news on upcoming releases, Chuck?
-
is the Ellington on the cards for this year ? They hope to release it in time for Christmas this year. It will be an 11CD-set.
-
Looks like it was hacked. (edit) It's back up again. It seems they let the domain name expire - or something like that.
-
The upcoming Henry Threadgill Mosaic set can be pre-ordered now. It is scheduled to be released at the end of September and it will have 8 CDs. Sony engineer Mark Wilder did the mastering. discography

All Monk : The Riverside Album - WTF????
J.A.W. replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
you leave me puzzled with this one... I think he means the link in post #39, above his post #40 It would have been easier if he had quoted the post. -
Here's an old thread about the Teagarden Roulette Mosaic set.

All Monk : The Riverside Album - WTF????
J.A.W. replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I got this e-mail from Downtown Music Gallery in New York, with all the details of the European Monk box: -
Forgot to add that my set was from Japan.
-
Sorry, but I have that set, where does it say that it was 20-bit K2 remastered, I don't remember seeing that printed anywhere. Not that I'm doubting you or anything. Unless there was a Japanese only release of this one; then I don't think this set was 20-bit K2 remastered, mine says it was done by Kirk Felton in 2000. I think you might be mistaking it for the Bill Evans Complete V.V. set, which was 20-bit K2 remastered. Either way it's a great set. Mine was a Japanese set and it was 20-bit K2 remastered. I don't remember exactly (I sold the set ages ago), but I think it said so in the booklet. And no, I'm not mistaking it for the Bill Evans set you mentioned. Musically it's a great set indeed, but, as I said earlier, to my ears sonically my set was not.
