  1. Not to start a discussion or even a fight about it, but how can you compensate for something that isn't there anymore? Simply put, one of the problems with noise reduction is that it removes higher frequencies information and what isn't there anymore can't be retrieved. I'm not saying ít's what you're doing (that's why I'm asking ), but just bumping the higher frequencies doesn't do the trick, the musical info that is lost cannot be regained. Just curious.
  2. Nice to see you're using the British-English spelling of "spelt"
  3. The album title is Congliptious, and it does appear on Chuck's Art Ensemble box. See also this thread.
  4. Mosaic's "Last Chance" page
  5. Sure, no problem. It seems to me that Mark did politely ask you to edit it. Were you the one who deleted it, or someone else? See the small print in the first post - Larry Kart, who's a moderator here, deleted the content, not the post, otherwise the whole thread would have been gone.
  6. If you were not unaware that it was a violation of board policy, then why did you post the whole interview? Just curious
  7. No, that would be their upcoming Henry Threadgill box, which includes recordings from 1994-1996.
  8. Thanks Larry. As Brownie said, a very wise decision. We don't need stuff like that on the open forum. Back to the Ladnier book
  9. As much as I like Lacy's work, I don't think I'd buy a set with all those unavoidable Irene Aebi vocals...
  10. Why don't you make a suggestion to Mosaic? It'd be a nice boxed set.
  11. "Redmon" I thought you had the book, or did you return it?
  12. I couldn't access the board until now, I kept getting the message: "IPS Driver Error There appears to be an error with the database." The board is very slow here now and it's regularly timing out.
  13. It would have had to have been. The only passing trade in Looe is in mackeral. Hm, I don't remember the records being smelly. Maybe I didn't notice - I quite liked mackerel at the time
  14. I bought a lot of jazz records from Acorn Music, based in the West Country - I think it was Looe, Cornwall, but I'm not sure. Are they the shop discussed in the book? What happened to the owner - I'm talking about the 1970s/1980s. I wonder if it is a different 'Acorn'. Acorn Records are based in Yeovil, Somerset, although I think they did have a second outlet for some time (short lived) in Weymouth, Dorset. The owner of Acorn is called Chris Lowe (the other founder, Rob, sadly passed away back in 1995). It might not be the same. The Acorn shop I'm talking about moved south from north Devon to (again, if I remember correctly) Looe. I heard a rumour years ago - after I'd stopped buying from them - that the owner had died. I don't remember his name. Their main business seems to have been mail order.

  16. Mundo's prices are also quite high compared to Hiroshi's. Earlier this week Hiroshi told me he might still be able to get new Japanese CDs after January 1, but nothing's been decided yet. That is hopeful. We'll await with interest. Yes - Mundo is more expensive than Hiroshi. MG Hiroshi just told me he'll probably know more in about four weeks.

  18. The Chu Berry set contains recordings from the late 1930s/early 1940s, while the Tal Farlow dates stem from the 1950s. You can't compare those two sonically, it's apples and oranges.
  19. Here's one. I think there are actually a couple of others, if I knew what to search on. You beat me to it Sorry, Hans lol. I can handle the easy searches every once in a while, but I'll have to leave the more challenging ones to you! I'm not smart enough to take those on! Too much credit... Sorry for the duplication, guys. Thanks, Hans, for merging the two. Tony Williams still on offer. I didn't merge the threads, I'm not a moderator
  20. The Chu Berry set and Denny Zeitlin Select are also back in stock.

  23. Saw Walrath/Adams with Mingus in the Netherlands in the very hot European summer of 1976, and as far as I remember Adams was pretty restrained at the time. Make that 1975 (the summer was still very hot ). I saw them at the Hammerveld Jazz Festival, Roermond, Netherlands. Walrath is missing from this picture: (photo: Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid)
