  1. I would not purchase the Djangologie box for these three tracks. Presume they will be added to the third re-reissue box from Frémeaux! From neveronfriday: I'm not - from a distance - convinced by that Frémeaux series either. That mastering outfit I linked to does not at all sound like one that takes great care in restoring music like that and I highly doubt they were given access to any masters. François Terrazzoni who mastered with great care all the Django Frémeaux sets also mastered many Masters of Jazz releases (Ellington, Basie, Hampton, Charlie Christian, among others). He did a great job on all those! I have a couple of Terrazzoni'd Dreyfus CDs of Eliington material, "Ko-Ko" (FDM 36717) and "Take The A Train" (FDM 36732) which are as good as any transfers I've ever heard. Am playing them right now, just to remind myself of their amazing quality. Lots of audio credits: (sorry for lack of diacritical marks) Transfers and Noise removal: Francois & Anne-Marie Terrazzoni - Studio Parelies Spacialization and Sound treatment - RERFRA Process: Rene Ameline, Assistant: Philippe Arnal Premastering: Rene Ameline and Francis Dreyfus - Assistant: Pedja Mastering: Rene Ameline and Philippe Arnal Of all these people, is there only one we should thank, as it seems they all had a part in what we hear? To my ears the "Noise removal" is exactly the problem with those Dreyfus Ellington CDs. They sound dead as a dodo to me; the loss of higher frequencies info is very obvious. In my opinion Terrazzoni did a much better job in the mid-1990s with some of the Masters of Jazz CDs that Brownie mentioned.
  2. Good luck with that. One more note: I've had an extensive exchange with Amazon Germany about this boxed set and actually managed to get hold of someone who is a) human and b) cares about what he's doing. He told me that Sony has NOT informed Amazon Germany at all (at any time or in any form) about any replacement sets. They were actually lead to believe they were supposed to keep on selling this sh*t bucket that everyone's complaining about. It was only after they were alerted by customer E-Mails that they read up on Sony's "customer satisfaction" plan which is supposed to get everyone around the globe new sets. When I contacted Amazon a few days later to check what this guy had found out, he told me that Sony hadn't responded (and apparently wasn't about to respond) to Amazon.de's inquiry. I checked again today. They still hadn't heard one peep from Sony. It's typical for those monkeys in suits - and I've had my run-in with them once or twice - and I encourage everyone to just boycott those gangsters. Fat chance, I know, but I ain't touching their stuff anymore if I can avoid it. I contacted Amazon U.K. earlier this month and they told me the sets they are selling now are the revamped ones, without the box and glue problems. It seems Amazon France are now also aware of the problems and they seem to be selling problem-free sets now, according to this message on their site: Nous avons constaté que certains coffrets 'The Complete Columbia Album Collection (Coffret 70 CD + 1DVD)' de Miles Davis présentaient des défauts de qualité du conditionnement. Merci. Judging by neveronfriday's post Amazon Germany seem to be the only Amazon branch that is still selling the defective sets...
  3. I heard a Frémeaux CD a few years ago. Someone had recommended it for its sonics, but I wasn't impressed. It was only one CD and it doesn't say anything about their other CDs, of course, but I have my doubts.
  4. I haven't heard anything from this Django set but, in my experience, EMI hardly ever has better sound on anything. Correct. They tend to apply noise reduction very generously to older stuff; the EMI Artur Schnabel box is a prime example.
  5. Available for view through BBC I-Player - not sure if this can be accessed outside the UK. See link at top of this thread. The BBCi Player is "U.K. only" for copyright reasons.
  6. Did you click on the "compatibility" button next to the address bar at the top and try posting again?
  7. Which browser do you use?
  8. You still don't take PayPal?
  9. That wasn't my question. I wasn't answering anyone's question. OK, misunderstood your post.
  10. Sad news.
  11. Same here. Tried his Mosaic Select, but didn't like his playing and sold it.
  12. Yep. I thought I'd mention it because in my opinion it's a great set
  13. The Curtis Amy and Bennie Green Mosaic Selects are now in the Last Chance category. The Tal Farlow Mosaic is also in this category. Get them before it's too late!
  14. That wasn't my question.
  15. Didn't Swaggie only reissue the Bob Cats on CD?
  16. When I asked them about it yesterday Amazon U.K. assured me that the replacement boxes don't have the glue problem.
  17. So does Amazon U.K..
  18. I have a "Decca Jazz" compilation, South Rampart Street Parade (GRP-615), with terrific music, but unfortunately the sound is dead as a dodo - it's another victim of Sonic Solutions' "NoNoise" system, as is proudly mentioned in the booklet...
  19. Received my box today from France. Pretty good shape, even though the packaging was sparse. Two slight splits on the front flip-down corners of the box, which I repaired with some clear tape. The box is sturdier than the early ones that I've seen. Cds are in cardboard sleeves, but glue is still a problem, I had fourteen cds with residue. Still, very happy with the purchase and the price, which is on par with AmazonUK. Positives: It is very nice to have the original art work, first time I've seen some of the covers, eg. 1958. As I was checking all the cds, I became more and more astounded by Miles, it was one great album after another. This man was a true artist for the ages. Are you sure you got a newly manufactured box?
  20. I ordered the box from Amazon U.K. They told me the replacement boxes are not expected to ship until next week at the earliest. Let's hope they solved the glue problem.
  21. I hated the sound on the Experience Hendrix remasters of Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland and I really hope Sony will remaster those albums without any limiting, added compression and boosted highs.
  22. As far as I can see this set has only one or two tracks each from her one Liberty and three Riverside albums, and I think you'd be better off with the individual OJC reissues as far as the Riversides go: OJC OJCCD-069 Abbey Is Blue (Riverside 1153) OJC OJCCD-085 That's Him! (Riverside 251) OJC OJCCD-205 It's Magic (Riverside 277)
  23. Looks like a compilation containing tracks from her 1956-1959 Liberty and Riverside albums and some of her 1960s-1980s albums on other labels. (edit) This set was released by Universal in Europe in 2009. It looks like a hodge-podge to me.
  24. Yep, these are repeats. I don't have a problem with that
  25. BBC 4 Jazz Night (all times GMT) From the BBC site: "There's a variey of music on offer, with Jazz Night on Friday including performances from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, the Modern Jazz Quartet, Oscar Peterson and Thelonious Monk, as well as Arena's examination of Cool through the music that came to be known as cool jazz, and Storyville's Jazz Baroness documentary."
