  1. I only have the King Oliver set. After quite some time I recently listened to it again and found it lifeless, as if a lot of noise reduction was applied. Pity, as the music is great. I've never heard any of their other releases.
  2. You're not confusing anything, the title of McBrowne's Pacific Jazz album was indeed Lenny (or Lennie) McBrowne and the Four Souls. The title of his Riverside album was Eastern Lights. In addition to McBrowne's Pacific Jazz album, I'd like to see another relatively unknown Pacific Jazz album reissued, Ron Jefferson's Love Lifted Me. Perhaps Mighty Quinn can be persuaded to release these albums. After all, they did reissue Pepper Adams' Pacific Jazz album Critics' Choice.

  4. All tracks from Congo Lament were reissued on Ike Quebec's Easy Living (Blue Note CDP 7 46846-2). Three tracks appeared on the Japanese "Blue Note Works" CD version (Toshiba TOCJ-4103): "See See Rider", "Congo Lament", and "Que's Pill". It's also on the Bennie Green Mosaic Select, I believe. Correct.

  6. I've had a few Japanese K2s that were contestants in the loudness wars that rage these days, and I got rid of them. They also sounded quite bright to my ears, and I preferred the OJC counterparts. Unfortunately, it's quite some time ago now and I can't remember which ones.
  7. Listened to the Oliver Retrieval set for the first time in quite a while and you're right, it's lifeless. Great music, and I wish they hadn't manipulated it... Is this material available elsewhere in better sounding CD transfers? I've been looking for that set for ages, and I immediately ordered a copy. Thanks for the tip!
  8. Sad news.
  9. Unfortunately, none of the Japanese "Blue Note Works" TOCJs have extra tracks.
  10. Thelonious Monk/Sonny Rollins was released as a hybrid SACD.
  11. You're right, forgot about that one.
  12. No individual domestic K2s, just regular OJCs. Thelonious Monk - Prestige P-7027/OJC OJCCD 010-2 Monk - Prestige P-7053/OJC OJCCD-016-2 Thelonious Monk/Sonny Rollins - Prestige P-7075/OJC OJCCD 059-2 plus extra material. AMG review of The Complete Prestige Recordings

  15. Well, I wasn't going to order mine until the very end of the month. MG The Stitt's a great set - in small doses
  16. Not on the Mosaic set or the Warner Bros. CD-set?
  17. Flurin, The CD-set is on Warner Bros., not Atlantic (see my post above).
  18. I have a Warner Bros. 6CD-set Turn Out the Stars - The Final Village Vanguard Recordings, June 1980. I don't have any details of the Mosaic set, but I'm guessing both sets have the same material. The CD-set was mastered by Malcolm Addey.
  19. Thanks for the info, David
  20. I'm looking for the older Japanese jazz and rock CDs listed below in excellent or better condition. I can only pay through credit-card-funded PayPal. Please PM me if you're selling any or know where I can find them. Please do not post any comments on the sound quality of the CDs. Thank you. 21. I haven't had any problems with the Dutch Postal Service lately. I lost a few shipments, but it turned out they disappeared after they had been handed over to the foreign postal service (Italy...) As for incoming shipments I have no complaints about the Dutch Postal Service, but the private carriers that also handle foreign shipments are another matter... They're generally terrible, with bad service and bad manners, they're extremely expensive when it comes to collecting import duty and tax, their delivery times are sometimes extremely long, and they're always making problems when no one's home during the daytime.
  22. What's not to like about it? MG Like I said elsewhere on the board, that's a matter of taste...
  23. I'm sorry?? You'd better verify statements like that first before you make them. I take exception to your insinuation Just an impression I get because you don't mention hearing a single NEW RVG for years, and you take a lot of oppotrunities to bash them. Sorry if you don't like the way that comes across, but it's an isinuation grown from what you've written. For your information: I have not bashed any RVGs from more recent batches - though I did in fact listen to a couple a few months ago and wasn't impressed, to say the least - I just occasionally posted that I generally don't like RVGs. Your insinuation is based, as you say, on an impression, not on facts; it implies deception or worse on my part, and I strongly object to that, I find it disgusting and insulting. I'm out of here.
