My recommendations would be: Vol.1: The Quintets Vol.3: The Octet #2 Vol.5: The Sextet
  3. That's right, she was engaged to John Dennis Levi, who died in the 9/11 WTC tragedy. She died just after her 52nd birthday, way too young...
  4. Man, people sure are quick to want to cut off discussion on this board lately... (Not directed at you, Hans; yours just happened to be on this page and easiest to quote!) No problem. I posted it because in my view discussions like these don't belong here - besides, they're very bad for my blood pressure :eye:, which is why I don't take part . I think they should be moved to the political/religious/etc. forum (which I can't see ); but hey, that's just my opinion...
  5. I have the set, but I've only listened to it once. It includes Webb's excellent Atlantic album El Mirage, but I had mixed feelings about the rest. I guess I should listen to it again, but first the Motown Singles set - I still have to play discs 5 and 6 of that one.

I didn't like this one and sold it, though I agree that Ibarra is great.
  7. It's now April 21, 12:37 AM over here, so: have a great day, Mark, and many happy returns!
  8. This one isn't bad either: and Grand Stan on Bethlehem is a nice album as well (couldn't find a picture of that one)
  9. Happy birthday - sorry I'm late...
  10. I just heard on the radio that drummer/photographer Stan Levey has died. I couldn't find a confirmation yet, but if it's true, it's very sad news. Edit: I heard the news on KKJZ jazz radio.
  11. EXACTLY !!! The mere thought...
  12. "SINCE 3 years?" You must mean "FOR 3 years," for sure!
  13. I didn't know that was English... (Edit: I meant the Jazz Kat quote)
  14. I misnamed the title, imo. I shouldnt of wrote, 'the worst,' but who do you dislike more. Didn't mean for it to get out of hand. And personally, from all the attacks thrown at Kenny G here, I don't think what I said was as bad as what I heard. Whatever it may be, childish, stupid, it can't be changed. "I shouldnt of wrote"??
  15. This is where you run off the tracks. Big time, I would add.
  16. I agree with UA that Mosaic's international shipping rates are quite high.
  17. Speaking of that: would someone please provide us an update re: these Mosaic sales? Not to re-open an old wound, but I'd like to know things ended up and there's no sense starting up some new thread. Side note: pryan hasn't posted here since his last post in that closed thread, on February 20.
  18. Very sad. I saw him several times way back in the 1970s and was impressed by his playing.
  19. Good to hear.
  20. Hi Tom, Welcome! I hope you'll like it here.

I fully agree with Tony's assessment of the Berne disc; my opinion is even more negative. I think I'd better stop here, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
  22. To my ears the sound of those French remasters isn't that great, and I ditched them all. The Bluebird "First Edition" reissues are indeed excellent. I picked up Desmond/Mulligan's Two of a Mind and the Ellington, Mingus and Rollins CDs in that series.
  23. That depends on how you like your music - I prefer the sound of the TOCJs, they sound much more musical to me than (J)RVGs and McMastered Blue Note reissues.
