  1. Happy birthday - sorry I'm late...
  2. I just heard on the radio that drummer/photographer Stan Levey has died. I couldn't find a confirmation yet, but if it's true, it's very sad news. Edit: I heard the news on KKJZ jazz radio.
  3. EXACTLY !!! The mere thought...
  4. "SINCE 3 years?" You must mean "FOR 3 years," for sure!
  5. I didn't know that was English... (Edit: I meant the Jazz Kat quote)
  6. I misnamed the title, imo. I shouldnt of wrote, 'the worst,' but who do you dislike more. Didn't mean for it to get out of hand. And personally, from all the attacks thrown at Kenny G here, I don't think what I said was as bad as what I heard. Whatever it may be, childish, stupid, it can't be changed. "I shouldnt of wrote"??
  7. This is where you run off the tracks. Big time, I would add.
  8. I agree with UA that Mosaic's international shipping rates are quite high.
  9. Speaking of that: would someone please provide us an update re: these Mosaic sales? Not to re-open an old wound, but I'd like to know things ended up and there's no sense starting up some new thread. Side note: pryan hasn't posted here since his last post in that closed thread, on February 20.
  10. Very sad. I saw him several times way back in the 1970s and was impressed by his playing.
  11. Good to hear.
  12. Hi Tom, Welcome! I hope you'll like it here.

I fully agree with Tony's assessment of the Berne disc; my opinion is even more negative. I think I'd better stop here, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
  14. To my ears the sound of those French remasters isn't that great, and I ditched them all. The Bluebird "First Edition" reissues are indeed excellent. I picked up Desmond/Mulligan's Two of a Mind and the Ellington, Mingus and Rollins CDs in that series.
  15. That depends on how you like your music - I prefer the sound of the TOCJs, they sound much more musical to me than (J)RVGs and McMastered Blue Note reissues.
  16. Yeah, the Hat group seems to currently have whatever inside track there is to be had on the Revelation catalog, having also reissued Warne's NE PLUS ULTRA. I know Ne Plus Ultra was supposed to be reissued on Hat, but did it actually happen yet? Not as far as I know. Hat's owner Werner X. Uehlinger told me last year his reissue program for 2005 includes Warne Marsh's Ne Plus Ultra. (edited to correct an error)
  17. That's funny, usually it's the other way around: I find the sound of CDs a bit tart and crisp and you don't To my ears and on my system the sound is OK, taking the age of the tapes and the fact that they or at least some of them were lost for a long time (who knows how they were stored...) into account. I think Malcolm Addey did a fine transferring/remixing/remastering job. I fully agree with Lon's assessment of the music, and the booklet is great. Edit: I've listened to parts of the set again tonight, and Lon's right, Sonny's saxophone does sound a bit tart here and there.
  18. Clifford Brown with Strings Clifford Brown All Stars Clifford Brown & Max Roach Brown and Roach Incorporated A Study in Brown More Study in Brown Clifford Brown and Max Roach at Basin Street plus Helen Merrill, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington albums with Clifford Brown and extra material.
  19. I just got this e-mail from CNN: Johnnie Johnson, a rock 'n' roll pioneer who teamed with Chuck Berry for hits like "Roll Over Beethoven" and "No Particular Place to Go," died Wednesday. He was 80.
  20. According to CD Japan it is OOP, though it was released in February 2005. Sometimes things move very fast in Japan...
  21. According to CD Japan this particular reissue is already out of print. HMV Japan doesn't even list it anymore.
  22. The Amazon description clearly states "24-bit remastered". When you scroll down on the page I linked to it says: "Album Details Japanese only pressing, 24-bit remastered reissue of the jazz/fusion guitarist's 1969 album. Sony 2005." I agree, the Sony quote is weird. Edit: The Amazon description doesn't guarantee anything, of course. They've been wrong before, but I wouldn't be surprised if this reissue is indeed 24-bit remastered.

    That's a fair price. They're €15 or about $19 in Europe.
