  1. I second that. All the best, SEK.
  2. In the same thread (post #9) Hoffman said something about the cymbal problems.
  3. If I remember correctly, Steve Hoffman said somewhere on his forum that Rudy Van Gelder EQed the master tapes during recording or something like that. Maybe that accounts for the lack of treble. Here's the Steve Hoffman forum thread I was referring to. Hoffman made his comments in post #21.

  5. Up, some serious comment/answers would be nice.
  6. Buying releases form Japan, in my mind, represents the next level of addiction. By not getting them I can deny that my illness is as serious as it is. I always thought they were $20+ dollars each and couldn't justify paying that when there is so much I don't have which available here for less than $10. (If they are not that expensive, please do not tell me, let me have my little fantasy.) My OCD tendencies also are a reason. It would drive me crazy to have some US releases, some Japanese releases, some Spainish releases. Somehow I justified the Spainish releases mainly because they were so cheap. But there is not a day that goes by that those cursed blue covers do not haunt me in the very depths of my soul. I upgrade them to US versions when I can (True Blue, Boss Horn) Many of those Spanish Blue Notes are in fact Japanese remasterings...
  7. ...or compared to HMV Japan and Tower Japan's insanely high shipping rates.
  8. I don't think they're that expensive when purchased from Hiroshi Tanno, at least not compared to the - indeed very expensive - imports some internet stores are offering.
  9. I'm proud to say, I've NEVER bought a Japanese issue. I've got some Spainsh issues, but at $5 each, how could you not? Proud? Why proud?? What's wrong with buying Japanese releases?
  10. brownie - you kill me! so french. and so very very true! acclamations à vous ami, -e- It's often the sound of remasters that's giving me headaches, but in this case it's the color... Yuk!
  11. With certain CD players that's not possible...
  12. So you're going to make me search for Pepper titles on Savoy. Here are a few details of Pepper's Discovery recordings that were issued on Savoy.
  13. Any spelling classes going on there? Doubt it, or he's skipping them...
  14. Nothing beats the old 78s!
  15. --- no offense intended whatsoever, but for myself i am not concerned with 'cheap'. the cheap route often leads down a dead-end street. i'm concerned about 'good'. mcmaster's work is, im my experience, inconsistent. i'll reserve my order until i see feedback (let us know hans!). hopefully 'good' and 'cheap' can meet, as they have in some other selects... regards, -e- I understand the Select McMaster remasters are the same as the ones used for the Japanese reissues, so there shouldn't be much, if any aural difference. ~~~~~~~~~~ E, I sent you a PM last week...
  16. Exile was remastered around 94 or 95. The remaster sounds great, a lot better than the original CD, but of course not as nice as the vinyl My copy of Exile dates from 1994. It doesn't say whether it's a remaster or not.
  17. Ronnie Scott with the Ronnie Ball Trio - Esquire (England) ESQ-303 Recorded in London on October 13, 1951 Personnel: Ronnie Scott - tenor saxophone Ronnie Ball - piano Pete Blannin - bass Tony Kinsey - drums Tracks: Close Your Eyes I Didn't Know What Time It Was The Nearness of You All of Me I'm not sure about the format (10" LP, EP)
  18. It is. The sound's great as well.
  19. As far as I know there's no domestic (U.S.) remaster of Exile, but there might be one in Japan.
  20. Congratulations. It's a fact though that when you get older, your hearing will diminish, however slowly; it's part of the aging process.
  21. Older people always have increasing high-frequency hearing loss. Some more than others, though. :( ...including me, of course (58 next month)
  22. I'm also looking forward to the Pacific Jazz Piano Trio Select, or whatever it's going to be called.
  23. Errr... I wouldn't be too sure of that, it's still American music...
  24. Yep, that would be the Mulligan CJB. It's got the wrong - or rather incomplete - text both on the box and the booklet: The Complete Verve Gerry Mulligan Concert Band Sessions.
  25. The booklets aren't numbered, and the set doesn't have a Mosaic CD number like "MDX-XXX", but everything else's the same. I have the European Mulligan Concert Jazz Band Mosaic; on the inside cover of the booklet it says "This is one of a limited edition of 7,500 albums", and the CD number is B0000958-02.
