Ubu mentioned this 2CD-set a while ago: I've only listened to the studio disc so far (will play the live disc this weekend), and I think it's one of Parker's better recordings. The interplay between Parker and Guy is perfect. The mood of this disc is very intense, yet relaxing. I will be returning to it often. Highly recommended!

Well, Tony likes it. Like I said before, there's something in Douglas' playing that annoys me very much, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm not too fond of Shepik's sound either; it's not Shepik, I don't like that guitar sound in general.

Wonder what Creedence Clearwater Revival's John Fogerty's reply would be... Hans I don't know if you remember this but on Fogerty's album "Centerfield" he recorded a song called "Zans Can't Dance".It was not complimentary. Zaents was not amused and he sued Fogerty and as a result Fogerty was forced to recut the song as "Vanz Can't Dance" and subsequent "Centerfield" albums had the recut and retitled version on it. Thanks, but that was what I was referring to. Maybe I should have included a smilie.

I've just been listening to Somebody on JC asked me what I thought, and here's the reply I posted there: Just got it and played it for the first time. Don't know what to think yet, it's very errr... Koglmann, subdued and cool. One thing that bothers me, as it bothered me with other Koglmanns, is Burkhard Stangl's guitar work; it sounds just too out of place to me, and I hate his horrible rock-like interventions, though fortunately there are very few of those on this album. Tony Coe is excellent, but I absolutely detest his "sweet", 1930-ish vocal on the final track. A mixed bag on first hearing.

Has anyone ever heard this Revelation album? Opinion? It was recorded in 1982, with Carmell Jones - trumpet, Roland Burns - alto saxophone, Frank Sullivan - piano, Scott Walton - bass, Billy Bowker - drums. The tunes were: Stella By Starlight / What's New / Now's The Time / Billy's Bounce / Pent Up House. I'm also interested to hear opinions on Frank Strazzeri's 1969 Revelation album That's Him and This Is New (Revelation 10).

I owned a few Revelation LPs way back in the 1970s and 1980s, and decided to do some research; unfortunately, I didn't find much. According to the first edition of the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, Revelation was established in 1965 in Los Angeles by John William Hardy and Jon Horwich, and moved to Gainesville, FL in the late 1970s. They released albums by Warne Marsh, Clare Fischer, Dennis Budimir, Tony Ortega (a few were also reissued on hat), Gary Foster, Joe Albany, Jerry Coker, Carmell Jones and Frank Strazzeri. I asked hat's Werner Uehlinger if he would reissue any Revelation albums by Warne Marsh (including Ne Plus Ultra, the album he reissued before) and Clare Fischer. I also asked him if he had set a date yet for a reissue of Anthony Braxton's 1979 Willisau date. Here's his reply: The plan is existing to reissue what I have released before. More Revelation is not possible. Due to the death of the owners. Fischer's tapes must be back at Fischer if my informations are correct. My own reissues depends the market. Also if I am able to find a new sponsoring for the label. Perhaps. Sorry I can not say you more. Thank you for your interest in the labels word. I try hard. Best regards, Werner X. Isn't there a consumer organization in Germany you can ask to sort it out for you? We have several in the Netherlands (some on national TV) and they're quite effective; those companies are scared to death of 'em... B)
