  1. You're absolutely right. My comparisons, though done with volume adjustments, are as subjective as can be, and they are certainly no proof that the SACDs are indeed better. Maybe I should have added that they sounded better to my (ageing) ears and on my system, and that it's always very much a matter of personal taste. When I was comparing the various versions, however, I was hoping that my XRCDs and K2 would sound just as good as, if not better than the SACDs, so I could sell the latter to an SACD-loving friend of mine...
  2. CDUniverse is selling them for $16.89 at the moment. They may not be the cheapest, but they're fast and reliable.
  3. Relax Scott , the only SACD CD-layer / mini-LP K2 comparison I did was the Dolphy (the others were SACD CD-layer / XRCD), and there the CD-layer of the SACD is only marginally better - on my system.
  4. The auction got the bidder "lepianiste" to bid against himself to get over the reserve. Greater fool theory. Once the reserve is met upping his bid won't affect the maximum bid as long as he's the high bidder.
  5. And you're right, of course!
  6. Hmm, I'm really happy with my TOCJs - with the exception of Contours, which wasn't available as a TOCJ.
  7. Another comparison, the CD layer of and my XRCD version. The SACD sounds much better, especially in the mid-high region.
  8. I've just compared the CD layer of and my Japanese 20-bit Digital K2 remastered version, and the SACD is a bit warmer and more detailed, but the differences are very minor.
  9. ...and many happy returns!

Unlike D.D. (Д.Д.), I quite enjoy Joe Maneri's playing, at least on the discs I've heard so far. I'm now playing and I like it a lot.
  12. The board's pretty slow again today...

According to CDUniverse the street date is now February 24, 2004.
  16. I found the guitar parts so annoying that I decided to sell this CD. I agree with Tony, though, that the rest of the album is great.
  17. ...Though there aren't that many beans to spill...
  18. You're killing us. Spill the beans! Seriously, it's up to Chuck whether or not to spill any beans...
  19. I've compared the XRCD and CD-layer of and the SACD is a clear winner. It's warmer, yet more detailed and transparent than the XRCD. The SACD is highly recommended, and, most important of all, the music is great!
  20. I just received the Wynton Kelly (Kelly Blue), Miles Davis (Relaxin') and Eric Dolphy (Out There) hybrids, and I'm waiting for the Cannonball Adderley (In San Francisco). I'll compare the CD layers with my XRCDs (Kelly, Miles), U.S. 20-bit K2 (Adderley) and Japanese 20-bit Digital K2 (Dolphy)
  21. Which Warne Marsh are you referring to, the one with Lee Konitz or his Atlantic date without Konitz? I haven't seen either in this series.
  22. Chuck, Sent you 2 e-mails.
  23. AllDirect.com CDUniverse As far as I know it's no longer available from Deep Discount.
  24. Two Mosaic auctions with misleading descriptions, stating the sets are OOP and rare: here and here.
