  1. Some of my orders from Deep Discount never arrived. Their customer service is not very efficient and rather slow, but they refunded me in the end. I don't think I'll order from them again.
  2. There are strings and there are strings...
  3. To keep it short: I hate it

After a not so inspiring Jimmy Cleveland album, it's a relief to listen to Great album! Hearing Parker and Ibarra together is always a pleasure.
  5. It's been a while since I played this one, but I gave it an unreserved recommendation at the time. Konitz at his best.
  6. I hate to spoil the fun, but, to put it mildly, this album's not my cup of tea. I don't want to offend anyone, so I'll leave it at that.

And I'm still grateful for that. I've purchased far too many CDs lately that turned out to be stock for my "get rid of"-pile.

No vocalising, no bowed bass - only pigs. OK, maybe no vocalizing, but pigs tend to scream a lot.

Hmm, I'm not so sure about that... I recall somebody telling me there's quite a lot of vocalizing on Pigs, so there's your answer.

I don't eat pork, so why should I listen to pigs?

His album Mouth Eating Trees and Related Activities put me off Gustafsson for the rest of the century.
  12. Unless you're watching it on a wide-screen TV, of course
  13. P.S. If anyone's interested, I still have the now OOP 4CD-set The Byrds for sale, for $35 plus shipping. It contains their albums plus extras, and a nice booklet. Sorry Bev, but I couldn't resist...
  14. I attended a Byrds date in the late 1960s. Don't remember much of it, other than that it impressed me less than the Jefferson Airplane concert in Amsterdam, also in the late 1960s, where Jim Morrison, who was supposed to play next with the Doors, acted like a fool and subsequently fell ill. The Byrds were a great group though, and I have many of their albums on CD, from Mr Tambourine Man to Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Don't care much for their later albums.

I listened to Franz Koglman's OOP hatART album About Yesterday's Ezzthetics yesterday, and I found it extremely dull, in spite of the presence of Fritz Hauser and Steve Lacy. Neither player did get very much room on this album. Pity.

Just got this OOP hat and enjoyed it very much: Tony Coe - Nutty - hatART
  17. What I want is the following; Al Cohn Quintet Featuring Bob Brookmeyer (MVCJ 19003) I've tried Hiroshi Tanno, and I've also tried this board. I've just placed an order, but am not holding my breath. I've also been trying to get that one for ages, but no luck so far.

I'm listening to this one right now: I'm not sure what to think of it yet. Edit: I like it, but it's very arranged "20th Century Classical-ish" music. Not to everyone's taste, I guess.
  19. So this might include tracks also on the "Blues, Boogie, & Bop" set? Do you have it? Does it also have complete sessions? ubu I believe it has some overlap. I have both sets, but comparing the tracklistings and session details would take hours... It does have complete sessions as far as I remember
  20. I was wrong: I was referring to the 8CD Mercury set The Mercury Blues 'n' Rhythm Story, 1945-1955, not another jazz-based box. This set includes sessions by Dinah Washington, Eddie Vinson, Gene Ammons, Jay McShann, Jimmy Witherspoon, Helen Humes, and many, many others, including blues and R&B artists.
  21. Yep, there was (is?) another huge Mercury set, containing (if memory serves) 1945-1955 sessions. I'm at work now, but when I get home I'll post a few details here - if it doesn't slip my mind, that is...

Phew, this is quite a relief after that disc with Mateen: Thanks John, for inspiring me to play this wonderful album again

I'm now listening to and I don't like very much what I'm hearing... Д.Д. is right about Sabir Mateen, he sounds a bit like the king of clichés. The recording's appalling. So far:

It's been a while since I last played them, but I agree with John, all of Joe McPhee's UMS CDs are great: Underground Railroad (1968/69) Nation Time (1970) Trinity (1971)
