  1. Shrdlu, I thought this was a non-political forum, so why are you bringing politics into it?? By the way, as you know I am one of those Europeans who's extremely happy with the euro B) As for the Irish, they could have said no again the second time but didn't, and I didn't see or hear any evidence that the second referendum was less democratic than the first one. Oh, and the Danes voted yes the second time as well, didn't they (I'm referring to their second referendum on the expansion of the EU), and we all know no one tells the Danes what to do or how to vote. I'll stop now, the political discussions on this and other boards are not good for my health...
  2. In most Western European countries most stores are closed on most Sundays
  3. Dan, They state that they can quote international shipping rates on request, so I'm guessing they do ship to your shores as well. I couldn't find any grading explanation.
  4. The LP can be ordered on-line. It's a hefty €68 (approximately $78) plus shipping, and payment can be made via PayPal. An e-mail to info@parallel-schallplatten.de might do the trick, but I don't know if they speak English. If not, I'm sure one of the board members living in Germany will be able to help, that'll probably be easier and cheaper than my help would be, as I'm in the Netherlands.
  5. Why not wait for Dmitry to post who has accepted his nomination?
  6. Recommendations: Piano - OJC or the XRCD version; 1958 Riverside trio and quartet recordings with Kenny Burrell, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones *Kelly Blue - OJC or the XRCD version; 1959 Riverside trio and sextet recordings with Nat Adderley, Benny Golson, Bobby Jaspar, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb Wynton Kelly - Vee Jay (Japan) BSCP-30036; 1961 trio recordings with Paul Chambers or Sam Jones, and Jimmy Cobb *Smokin' at the Half Note - Verve; 1965 quartet recordings with Wes Montgomery, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb *These are essential in my opinion.
  7. I have two Japanese 24-bit K2 remastered Wynton Kelly mini-LP sleeve Vee Jay reissues and enjoy them very much. I'm not so keen on Paul Chambers, so I can't comment there. The Mosaic set, which also includes the album The Fantastic Frank Strozier, is a bit heavy on alternates, but, setting aside my "Chambers indifference", I think it would be a very worthwhile purchase, the more so since it seems to have the best sound of all Vee Jay CD reissues, including the two mentioned above! Malcolm Addey remastered this set and I have yet to hear a less than satisfactory Addey remastering job. By the way, did you know that Addey was the engineer of some of Cliff Richard's early recordings, way back in the late 1950s / early 1960s?!
  8. Doesn't the drop-down "moderation options" menu at the lower left-hand side of your thread work? Just select "delete this topic" and GO!
  9. Why don't you delete the other posts?
  10. ?? What's that supposed to mean?
  11. They're even cheaper from HMV UK, £5.99 (approximately $9.40 or €8.40) each. The Dragon 4CD-set is also available from HMV UK at £35.99 (approximately $56.50 or €50.40)
  12. Both Paris dates are available from Amazon UK for £7.99 (approximately $12.50 or €11) each, including UK tax: Paris date with Coltrane Paris date with Stitt
  13. Highly recommended!
  14. It's available from HMV Japan, but beware! Their shipping rates are sky high. Why don't you ask Hiroshi Tanno: hiroshi@earlyrecords.com if he can order it for you from HMV - his price will be a bit higher than HMV's, but his shipping rates are much lower.
  15. Yes indeed. I agree that the Tommy McClennan was a crown jewel of that series. I play it quite often. But I would still reserve the supreme crown for the Robert Lee McCoy (Robert Nighthhawk). Before that disk, all reissues of that material were in absolutely terrible sound, with some tracks barely audible. That disk was like a dream come true for Robert Nighthawk lovers. For Blind Willie McTell fans, also be advised that JSP just released McTell's complete known recordings from 1927-1940 on 4 disks at a very low budget price (about $21). The McClennan and Robert Lee McCoy were indeed crown jewels, and deserved much wider attention than they apparently got. I assume the wonderful earlier Bluebird series was killed because of poor sales. Let's just hope this series will do better, even though the current reissue programme might not be as extensive as the earlier one promised to be. Anyway, I'm glad they released the Blind Willie McTell, which wasn't part of the earlier series.
  16. CDUniverse is selling them for $13.29, BOB for $13.99 and the box set for $174.99 at the moment. Amazon UK is selling most Dylan SACDs for £9.99, which might be interesting for European board members.
  17. Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup - Rock Me Mama CDUniverse
  18. Sonny Boy Williamson I - Bluebird Blues CDUniverse
  19. This is the complete list: Various - Walk Right In* Various - The First Time I Met the Blues* Various - That's Chicago's South Side* Various - That's All Right* Leadbelly - Take This Hammer Various - Poor Man's Heaven Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup - Rock Me Mama Sonny Boy Williamson - Blue Bird Blues Blind Willie McTell - Statesboro Blues *These are included in the 4CD-set.
  20. When The Sun Goes Down - The Secret History of Rock 'n' Roll, Vol.9: Blind Willie McTell - Statesboro Blues - RCA This is one of the best discs in this wonderful RCA series. It features Blind Willie McTell's great songs and a few songs with others (which I don't like that much to be honest) from his Victor years (1927-1932) in beautiful sound. The shellac disc transfers were done by John R.T. Davies, the metal part transfers, audio restoration and CD mastering by Doug Pomeroy. Highly recommended for the McTell solo songs! VAN THE MAN

No need to apologize! You can post as many Van Morrison threads as you like, of course

    VAN THE MAN

Here's another Van Morrison Blue Note CD thread on this board.
  23. I second that, it's a great album, one of Dorham's best IMO. I like the sombre mood very much, and, like you said, the playing is excellent.
