  1. According to this thread, this particular administrator seems to have realized that. Its inclination towards freer styles is the main reason for my interest in the AAJ board.
  2. Same here. Was it a political thread? This thread is a good example. As long as a guy like deep keeps holding the AAJ board hostage and terrorizing it like he's doing now, I'm not going to post over there. Every time a poster is saying something deep doesn’t like (which is almost all of the time, unless it's Patricia / Still Life), they get a bashing; my English is not good enough to counter sexist, childish and offensive posts like his. It's beginning to look like deep is controlling the AAJ board.
  3. An incredible price for a great album.
  4. vs. daily rations of Stuttgarter Hofbrau!!! You gotta be joking? You can have both here!

  7. Sorry, but I really hate Oranjeboom; watery beer which used to give me bad hangovers (don't drink it anymore). Duvel is a great Belgian beer, I love it.
  8. ...And that's an understatement... Hans: From a European viewpoint, what do you think of Stella Artois? Is it considered a 'good' beer or on the same level as Heineken? I'm not a fan of either Heineken or Stella Artois, so I can't really answer your question. Of the more generally available beers in the Netherlands, I like Brand Beer; there are several small Dutch breweries that produce excellent beers, and I'm also fond of a lot of German beers (weizen knows all about those...)
  9. ...And that's an understatement...
  10. I couldn't disagree more! In my opinion the importance of a musician should be judged by the music he played, not by the number of recordings he made. Chaloff was one of the most significant improvisers on the baritone saxophone.
  11. It most certainly is.
  12. Have fun!
  13. I have the Japanese 20-bit K2 remastered versions of the Chet Baker albums: Smokin' - Victor VICJ-60047 Groovin' - Victor VICJ-60048 Comin' On - Victor VICJ-60049 Cool Burnin' - Victor VICJ-60050 Boppin' - Victor VICJ-60051 The sound is better than those ZYX discs. They might still be available from Hiroshi Tanno: hiroshi@earlyrecords.com. The music is great, with George Coleman - tenor sax, Kirk Lightsey - piano, Herman Wright - bass, Roy Brooks - drums.
  14. You're probably right. Anyway, I would have paid more to get this Mayfield material, so I shouldn't complain...
  15. I picked up the Mance Lipscomb, Jackie DeShannon, and Loudon Wainwright III Handmades. They're all excellent, but, although they made these recordings available again for the first time since the original LPs appeared, the price seems a little high.
  16. I'm with Chuck - this is too silly for words, so...
  17. Slightly off-topic: copy-controlled CDs are marked "CCCD" on some sites (Amazon Japan, HMV Japan)
  18. I was wondering about that too.
  19. Yes, it was released at the time it was recorded in 1969. It's one of my favorite albums since. Know it's been reissued and should be available. Are you saying this has been reissued on CD? It's available on LP, but I've never seen it on CD anywhere.
  20. Finally! I've been waiting for years for these recordings to be reissued. I had both Mayfield Tangerine LPs and they were wonderful. Can't wait to hear them again!
  21. Have a wonderful day!
  22. Could somebody interpret this for me? Sounds expensive, but I'm ignorant about translating the Euro currency into dollars. €76.69 = about $90 at yesterday's exchange rate (€1 = $1.175 / $1 = €0.85) Edit: the exchange rate on Tuesday, 11/18 is €1 = $1.195 / $1 = €0.835
  23. OK, but not all systems have "EQ fiddling" facilities. I agree, though, that the current Armstrong, Holiday and Christian box sets are the best sounding remasters ever (although the JSP Armstrong set is very good too), system dependent or not. On my system the harshness more or less disappears after a 10 to 15-minute run in.
  24. I found these two sessions, originally released on the LP Jack's Groove (GNP 60): Recorded in LA, July 1957 Personnel: Jack Sheldon - trumpet Conte Candoli - trumpet Stu Williamson - valve trombone Vince DeRosa - French horn Red Callender - tuba Lennie Niehaus - alto saxophone Billy Root - tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone Pete Jolly - piano Buddy Clark - bass Mel Lewis - drums Tracks: Brown Cow On Green Dolphin Street I'm Also a Person I Had the Craziest Dream Arriverderci Recorded in LA in March 1959 Personnel: Jack Sheldon - trumpet Chet Baker - trumpet Stu Williamson - valve trombone Herb Geller - alto saxophone Art Pepper - alto saxophone Harold Land - tenor saxophone Paul Moer - piano Buddy Clark - bass Mel Lewis - drums Tracks: Anyhow Julie Is Her Name Aplomb Sunset Eyes J.S. I hope this helps.
