anyone see the dirty steely yet

I think I've met that guy a few times. I never have the heart to tell him that I have a 401k. Was he wearing an old REM tour t-shirt? Sometimes I feel like Jim Halpern setting up certain situations for my enjoyment alone, only their is no documentary crew to share the moment with. -
Modern Rock - what do you like???
.:.impossible replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
sjarrell, have you checked out kingsbury manx? They are a fantastic band based out of chapel hill. One of the members works at cd alley down there. He told me that they actually formed here in wilmington. They are represented by billions corporation. In some circles, that is a sure sign that they 'made it.' Others that we've been listening to recently, all can be had at various organissimo-approved online retailers so use the search feature at the top of this page: I'll say it again, I L A D Yeah, my brother is in the band, but that should not detract from the recommendation. I am a believer. Jolie Holland Springtime Can Kill You Absolutely gorgeous music. There is an unbelievably waivering quality to her music, similar to what you hear on the Atavistic Unheard Music Series Country Brass Bands. I also relate it to the modulation that I hear on the Vashti Banyan/Animal Collective EP. She really is an amazing singer & musician. So many people on this board would really like this disc, but probably won't ever read this thread and buy it. Gillian Welch Soul Journey What can I say... if you don't know, you don't know. Mike Andrews (Elgin Park) You may recognize this name as a member of Greyboy Allstars. His solo output couldn't be more different. Maybe not as psych-folk as psych-folk listeners would tell you, but it seems to fit into his melodic ideas. Freaks and Geeks fans may also recognize his name, as he composed the score for the show. Good stuff. Good good stuff. Archer Prewitt OK, so if you are familiar with these artists, you are probably already in tune with the listening mood. Another solid recording from a member of The Sea and Cake. I hope someone checks some of this stuff out and reports back. All very good music that 'rewards repeated listening'. -

The 40 year old Virgin

I'll admit that I haven't seen the final cut, so I shouldn't criticize. Still, I'd like to see Carrell take on a more challenging role. Something subtle, for instance. -
shrugs?

I think Steve Carrell is hilarious, but I thought this movie was sub-par for him. I saw the unedited version, which was way long. Subtle is not a word that comes to mind when I think of this movie. A lot of the gags were purely shock value. I'd say this movie was a near-miss for him and hope he takes on more challenging roles in the future. -

I wouldn't recommend Southern Rock Opera as an entry-point though unless you are fascinated with the Van Zants and Skynyrd. -

Hey guys, if you wouldn't mind checking out this link. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=28028 -
Howdy folks! I’m looking for a little help from the community here. I have offered to help an ‘experimental rock’ outfit book a fall tour. We have sent a press kit to a number of clubs listed below. If any of you have any experience dealing with any of the clubs listed below and have advice and/or an ‘in’ with the booking agent, any help would be much appreciated! I’ve also included an itinerary. If you know of any other clubs that would fit the bill, by all means, throw them out there for me! The band has done a couple of live radio performances as well. If you think this is a possibility in your town, we would love to work it out. Blindfold Test .:.23 DISC TWO Answers
.:.impossible replied to .:.impossible's topic in Blindfold Test
Nice! A little searching tells me that there were only a dozen or so Crumar Mainman instruments made! Apparently this is the first (or one of the first) synths with a drum machine built-in. Thanks for digging this up Adam! I will have to listen to the Horo music again. I really had a blast doing this bft. I haven't participated in a while. Maybe I should start again... -

SAMMICH! -
Yoshimi Battles... is an extension of the sound that they created on The Soft Bulletin. The newest, At War With The Mystics further explores this with some really slick production techniques, including some Fennesz Endless Summer-like guitar. Really, this is a brand new era for their music. You may be interested in the four disc album Zaireeka (all four discs are to be played simultaneously) and Clouds Taste Metallic, but The Soft Bulletin really starts a new sound for The Flaming Lips. I believe The Soft Bulletin is also the first The Flaming Lips album to be released in an alternate 5.1 format.

Ben Roethlisberger badly hurt in a motorcycle crash
.:.impossible replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
In my opinion, it is up to the rider whether or not he/she wears a helmet. I can't imagine the odds of a fatal accident decrease THAT much when you strap one on. Its like buying two lotto tickets instead of one. The odds are still pretty much the same, all math aside. Like Jim said, there are more bad drivers out on the road than good drivers. You are assuming a risk in anything smaller than a Tahoe at this point. Riding a motorcycle requires a heightened awareness on the road. T or F | A quarterback is required to wear a helmet during game play to avoid head trauma in every state in the U.S. T or F | A quarterback is not required to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle in many states in the U.S. -

Jazz Rock super group coming to San Francisco
.:.impossible replied to wenospeak's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Totally awesome. -
That is interesting. I wouldn't take them as jazz-influenced musicians. May be one of the new guys? I know they're out of Louisville Kentucky, and I know they have had a couple of new musicians join in recent years. Their sound has changed over time as well, which makes it tough to recommend a starting point. I like the earlier albums, but what I've heard of their later stuff is also very pleasing. Certainly a new approach though.

I thought the Daisy/Rempis duets were very nice. Clean clean playing from both of them. Very focused and engaging throughout. I really enjoyed listening to the two of them together. Of the Okkas I purchased this time around, I have listened to the Jeb Bishop Trio/Quartet album Afternoons the most. I especially like the ensemble sound of the quartet.
