p.s. That's me in the helmet and goggles in and undisclosed location on an undisclosed continent in an undisclosed hemisphere.

I'm feeling awful shady right about now. Honestly, there is very little record of me on the internet, as of today, and I'd like to keep it that way for a while. I'm really just another guy with no tie to the industry. I'd just assume keep it that way. Welcome Ted.

sent: I've been having this dream. William Carlos Williams and I are playing table tennis vs. Lowell George and an anonymous Spanish gypsy carrying a fife in his back pocket. Mr. Williams has a menacingly destructive forehand, and he's playing to the left of me, which means I have to slide right every time our unlikely opponents slice a return down the middle. I'm not getting much action here, and Mr. Williams continuously urges me to read Rainer Maria Rilke. Lowell has DJ duties and is content with the same Joao Gilberto side over and over again. Its actually kind of nice. The gypsy is sort of out of place. To this day, I don't know what he's doing there, but he's drinking from a plastic concert cup that reads: 10KLF 10,000 LAKES FESTIVAL featuring the sounds of ORGANISSIMO

Well its not too late... he's still here. Maybe I'm a little hard on RI. It has been a good three years, but my philosophy is Rhode Island is best left to the Rhode Islanders. There are still plenty of unspoiled areas in Rhode Island that really amazed me. Such a varying terrain for such a small state.

Oh yeah... the way he does Giant Steps is pretty incredible!

Unissued BN session: Grant Green w/John Gilmore
.:.impossible replied to jasonguthartz's topic in Discography
My thoughts exactly. The first thing that came into my head was "whoa." Somthing about it doesn't register. I'd still buy it if it were available though! -
It constitutes its own thread.

I can't even imagine what this sounds like! Ezzthetic? Whoa. -
Manifest Disc & Tape on South Blvd. Definitely hit that up. Charlotte was a nice town. Now sprawling, but you should have a good time. Go to Alexander Michael's in 3rd Ward. Paul is the hippest bartender in town. He has a jazz mix I left him a few years back. I wonder if he ever plays it, or what the hell is on it. I remember listening to Yo La Tengo, Soul Coughing, and all kinds of great music in there. Sort of a hidden place too! Find it!

I like Triology. An alto player gave me a promo copy of it once in exchange for Wayne Shorter Adam's Apple. I played that album for him a few nights before we exchanged discs, along with some Archie Shepp impulse! and he responded, "So you like those underdogs huh?" We never traded back, so I was glad to see Adam's Apple RVG'd last year. Triology is a good disc. I saw Kenny Garrett in Greensboro a few years back with ADR. The set was very mixed. It went from extremely free, to extremely smooth. He shifted gears way too quickly and stayed in smooth for way too long. I used to have Persuance, but I think I traded it so someone here a couple years ago. I'd actually like to hear it again if I ever came across it. Is Kenny still into that smooth R&B thing? Was it Happy People?

I always thought Chicago would be cool. We almost moved there three years ago actually.

I've been in Providence about three years and we're moving in two months. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm not telling you where I'm moving because I don't want the rest of the world to discover it. OK, fine. Wilmington, NC. But please don't go talking it up! It is already growing too fast as is. Providence has been fun. Friends in NYC put us up all the time on the weekends, Boston is a day trip, New Hampshire has a wide variety of lift tickets for sale, as does Vermont, and Providence... hm... I guess its just a convenient location for all of that. I know Vint loved it, but I have to disagree about the winters! We moved here just in time I guess, because EVERYONE says RI has mild winters. The past three winters were not mild! The summers are mild! I have no real complaints about Providence. I always knew it was temporary, and that helped. Good people, good food, no music scene. I'll miss it, but not as much as I've missed Wilmington! Good luck with your move C!

Thank goodness this hasn't made its way into jazz concerts. Could you imagine? "Central Park West!" -
Thank you! It is nice that we have an in-house photographer of this caliber!

Great news! Any plans for New England? Looks like Boston is getting some B-3 action in early May... Thu., 05/05/05 Soulive The Paradise, Boston, MA. Fri., 05/06/05 Soulive The Paradise, Boston, MA. Sat., 05/07/05 Ken Clark Organ Trio Acton Jazz Cafe, Acton, MA. Sat., 05/21/05 Ken Clark Organ Trio Ryles Jazz Club, Cambridge, MA. After reading about ken Clark here, I'm really looking forward to hearing him live! Soulive, I'll probably pass on though... -
Maybe organissimo.org really is a microcosm of the actual jazz audience.

I used to hear the Greyboy Allstars referred to as Acid Jazz, or west coast soul jazz boogaloo etc etc etc. I think they are more derivative of the JBs than Jimmy Smith et al, but I've also heard Melvin Sparks-style guitarists referred to as acid jazz. Jam band fans are into this stuff quite a bit. Greyboy Allstars Karl Denson (saxophones) Elgin Park (Guitar) Zak Najor (Drums & Percussion) Chris Stillwell (Bass) Robert Walter (Keyboards) I think a lot of Robert Walter's projects would probably be considered acid jazz by some. 20th Congress, Frequinox (Donald Harrison, Robert Walters, Stanton Moore, Robert Mercurio, Will Bernard), Galatic side projects, etc. Then you've got late 90s Bay Area DJ Mark Farina

I don't think shrugs is the type to announce that he's no longer interested in internet chat boards. Just my take. Still doesn't explain ebay deals falling through though. I don't have any information unfortunately.

Joe Christmas is out at sea until early summer. I think shrugs got out of the Navy last year. Other than that, I don't have any info.

PM sent re: Teddy Charles titles. Thanks! -
Yeah, Jim you gotta check out The Fringe. A working trio for over three decades, this is the place to hear Garzone. Make sure you grab one of the live discs. I'm surprised you don't have this stuff! I think this is something you would be very interested in.
